Shame we can’t find a new site and have it built while still able to use Selhurst until it’s ready. Surely that makes more sense as the infrastructure around selhurst is a nightmare at 25,000 let alone 33000 or 40000.

This would be a much better option and oddly cheaper in the long run as it’s easier and quicker to build something new and fit for purpose than to try and adapt something old and with so many constraints (neighbours, parking, transport).

Even with new land costs, it would be far more cost effective. Purpose built for 50 or 60 thousand. Able to hold events and concerts out of season to keep funds flowing. Could finally grab hold of the large catchment area we have.

Obviously a nice idea but in reality -

a) If a nice patch of land suitable for redevelopment into a PL football stadium with the surrounding transport links (etc) required was available anywhere in the local area we would probably have gone that route already -
b) To fund the new stadium we would probably have sold SP for redevelopment into residential / industrial estate use to raise the capital & ground shared with someone for couple seasons
(IDK maybe Fulham)

In fact if Everton had ground shared whilst Bramley Moore Dock was being built perhaps some of their financial woes would not have arisen / been significantly diminished.

(OK perhaps ground sharing with Liverpool maybe wouldn't have happened, I dont know the area well enough to know if there would or could have been alternatives to consider)

To miss out on maybe being one of the grounds for that would be very poor.

Already many bad decisions but the positives I do believe it will happen just a case of when.

Our clubs is always behind and takes so long to do anything this has to be down to SP.

Maybe a start will be made in this coming season? He's got planning permission I believe, but rebuilding of it will be massively expensive, costs having risen dramatically no doubt. And stadium income will fall whilst it's being constructed, but the other three stands will be rocking!

I suspect that is why the 106 agreement was so costly and long negotiated.

It doesn't matter what size it is, there no chance of ever being selected for Euros, as transport links are a nightmare.

You cant blame SP for that, no matter how you try.

3 different train stations within walking distance. Parking available all round the stadium, Bus routes that run right past the ground from Bromley, Croydon and inner London. Cant really see how transport links could actually be better!

an East-West extension of Tramlink. From Harrington Road, westward through Selhurst Park and culminating in your choice of link in Mitcham/Wimbledon.

They could make it work but when you stand at Thornton Heath station for a train to East Croydon for almost an hour after a Monday night match Id say it could be better

--------
First train to West Croydon, then tram (or bus) to East Croydon.

Those stadiums were picked last year.

London:

Wembley
Spurs

Elsewhere:

Millennium Stadium
Everton's new place
Etihad
St James' Park
Villa Park
Hampden Park
Aviva (Dublin)
Casement (Belfast).

When even the Emirates isn't getting a look in, it doesn't matter what we plan to build or when.

2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough

parking has been a nightmare for years and many roads are now residential only or restricted to 2 hours parking etc. You can park but usually a good 15 minutes walk.

Similarly i think 2 of stations (Selhurst and Thornton Heath) are on the same line) so it's really that line and Norwood Junction, which i agree is a pretty good option

I’m puzzled by all the talk about infrastructure not being able to cope with 25,000 or more.
We regularly used to get crowds of 30,000/40,000 and even 50,000 without this being a major issue. Yes, it was busy, but then it is anywhere you have a large football ground.
What has changed to make this such a problem all of a sudden?
