If I was good enough at anything to be considered as the answer to a problem or situation for that kind of money for a few weeks work I would absolutely dive in & wouldn't care if people thought I was being a mercenary & I suspect many others would do the same. Mercenaries largely only exist because there are problems to solve & they present sometimes almost unique skills to reach a positive outcome. Additionally, I saw something recently where it was saying that Roy said, in an interview on talk sport with Simon Jordan (or as a response to something that Simon had said) Roy was the one who told Palace that with a couple months left of the season he didn't want to renew his contract -but in essence it doesn't substantially change the point of the question. Reading this and other threads about Sam Allardyce he is perceived to be a mercenary and only took this job because of the money on offer. I wonder if the same people that view him as a mercenary also view Roy Hodgson in a similar vein as having been told that his contract wouldn't be renewed he received a phone call from our chairman in desperation for him to come back and save the club from the dreaded drop. I'm guessing that Hodgson isn't working for nothing so does that make him a mercenary too?

Allardyce's frequent job hopping might put him more readily in the firing line however in a sport which is now dominated by and therefore a gateway to ludicrous money are we meant to believe all other managers, players and others navigate their careers based on loyalty, sentiment and some sort of unwritten moral code they are 'supposed' to follow? It's a bit like the ultimate job interview question - 'Why would you like this role/to work here?'. More money, I'd like more money please and this seemed like a vacancy I might have a possibility of being successful in landing... for more money than I am currently receiving'. Is Wilf a non-mercenary or just a terrible one who didn't find success in that venture, for one example?

Just because he wasnt a very good manager (Lewington comes to mind) doesn't mean all he is worth is putting out the cones . Lots of managers have lost their way over the years when seperated from their mate .

No transfer fee or agent fees. 1 decent game in 2 or 3 does it for me. Try getting a player all in like wilf for 5 years at that rate. Cost alone is that minimum without wages.

Or will he be a 200k a week millstone I'm sure he'll get some good offered elsewhere, but I cant imagine there would be anyone who would offer a 5 year deal
