I see that Everton have expressed interest in Tammy Abraham, who Roma are happy to release. I'd like to see us go for him, as I think he'd be a perfect target man for us.

Your probably right, but can’t help thinking he would be an expensive acquisition , if only wage wise.

£27m has been quoted and he'd want a pay rise from his current £95-100k a week. If Wilf leaves we might have a shot but, just for a change, West Ham are involved too as will a few other clubs.

Would be exactly what we need. Good target man, pretty quick, high level experience and good technique. I can't comment on his workrate but will simply presume it's better than Edouard's - unless he's asleep or dead.

I’ve been messing around with Google’s AI (Bard) as it’s handy for finding info on players- it’s pretty accurate and makes researching players that we’re linked to so much easier!

After a few attempts and revisions, I’ve now settled on the following prompt:

“Tammy Abraham
Compile a scouting report on footballer above include his age, nationality, number of caps, honours, languages spoken, youth team/ academy he played in, notable teams played for, current team, purchase price by current team, current status within team, and as many details about his physique, preferred formation and position, any formations which he is not suited to playing, preferred foot, technique, style of play, injury record, notable attributes, weaknesses and his future potential in the game. Also give estimated salary, length of contract remaining, his value and any known clauses in his contract. What clubs have been linked to signing him in the past, when those links were, how much were they thought to be considering paying and whether those interested clubs are actively seeking players in his position. How likely is it that he would join Crystal Palace.”

Here’s what it came up with:

“Tammy Abraham
* Age: 25
* Nationality: England
* Number of caps: 12
* Honours: UEFA European Under-19 Championship (2017), UEFA European Under-21 Championship (2019)
* Languages spoken: English, Spanish
* Youth team/academy: Chelsea
* Notable teams played for: Chelsea, Aston Villa, Roma
* Current team: Roma
* Purchase price by current team: €40 million
* Current status within team: First-team regular
* Physique: Tall and athletic, with good strength and pace.
* Preferred formation and position: Abraham is a striker who is comfortable playing in a variety of formations, including a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, and 3-5-2. He is most effective as a lone striker, but he can also play as a supporting striker or inside forward.
* Formations which he is not suited to playing: Abraham is not suited to playing in a deep-lying role, as he lacks the technical ability and passing range to play as a playmaker.
* Preferred foot: Right foot
* Technique: Abraham has good technique for a striker, with good ball control and finishing ability. He is also a good header of the ball.
* Style of play: Abraham is a powerful and athletic striker who is strong in the air and good at running in behind defenders. He is also a good finisher, with a keen eye for goal.
* Injury record: Abraham has had a relatively good injury record throughout his career. He has missed a few games due to minor injuries, but he has never been sidelined for a long period of time.
* Notable attributes: Abraham's notable attributes include his strength, pace, finishing ability, and aerial ability.
* Weaknesses: Abraham's weaknesses include his lack of creativity and his tendency to go missing in games.
* Future potential in the game: Abraham has the potential to be a top striker in the Premier League. He is still young and has room to improve, but he has already shown that he has the ability to score goals at the highest level.
* Estimated salary: £100,000 per week
* Length of contract remaining: 3 years
* Value: £50 million
* Known clauses in his contract: Abraham has a release clause in his contract worth €80 million.
* Clubs that have been linked to signing him in the past: Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United
* When those links were: Abraham has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United in the past. The links to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were strongest in the summer of 2021, when Abraham was looking to leave Chelsea. The links to Newcastle United have increased in recent months, as the club has become wealthy following its takeover by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
* How much were they thought to be considering paying: Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were thought to be willing to pay £40 million for Abraham in the summer of 2021. Newcastle United are reportedly willing to pay £50 million for Abraham.
* Whether those interested clubs are actively seeking players in his position: Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are all actively seeking players in Abraham's position. Arsenal are looking for a new striker to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left the club in January 2022. Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a new striker to compete with Harry Kane. Newcastle United are looking for a new striker to lead their attack.
* How likely is it that he would join Crystal Palace: It is unlikely that Abraham would join Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace are not in the Champions League or the Europa League, and they are not considered to be a top club in England. Abraham is likely to want to play for a club that can challenge for trophies and offer him the chance to play in Europe.”

I’ve found it to be pretty accurate on most things, although sometimes the some of the transfer info is a little off or out of date for the player, but I’ll forgive it that for the convenience of having all the info laid out for me.

With regards to Tammy joining us, I’d sooner spend that size of transfer fee and wages on 2 or 3 other players and I don’t think he’s want to join us either.

Just reading the Sun article on Tammy Abraham, (ok its the Sun)
TA is a first team regular at Roma, valued at around Euro 50 million - Everton have allegedly offered £27M based on the fact that they need a striker, DCL is injury prone & Roma have FFP issues (Like Everton dont have FFP issues of their own) -

If TA could be bought for £27M as an established Roma first team regular with 3 years left on his contract I would have thought that there are plenty of places he could go that are more attractive than Everton -

Even with FFP issues to consider I struggle to see Roma letting him go for £27M -

Won't argue with AI. TA is only 25 and will hold out for a team in European competition. In 5 years or so he will see a club like us as a good place to end his career.

I know, ego over reality. But he and his agent have to believe it is possible.

That is, end thread.

This thread kind of sums up the quandary Palace have on the striker front.
Abrahams, would or should improve our scoring potential. But whether he would or should we can’t afford him.
This applies not just to Abrahams, unfortunately any player with a half decent strike rate at the top level is likely to be beyond our means. Regardless of means the problem applies to not just us but a number of clubs, so even trying to buy potential is almost as big a problem.

Another report says Man U are looking at him for £40m which seems more realistic since they paid £34m for him. The £27m figure seems to be based on either what Everton might have offered and/or something to do with the FFP strictures.

Strikers like Akpom are more within the Palace price range and is bound to be better than what we currently have. We also have the promising Franco Umeh as a youth player, who in a few years may be excellent. A PL club with more money than sense might take a flutter on him
