Well at least Parish and Dougie seem to have learnt a lesson. Rather than paying £25m+ for an injured player we’re now going for much cheaper injured players such as Hazard and Draxler…that’s gotta be progress in anyone’s book!

We’re being linked with Draxler as well as Hazard. Strikes me as 'we need a winger and have been unable to identify one to fit the mould we'd been trying to follow, let's just get a big name short term'. Reactive not proactive. I say that without any criticism or gripe however, I don't think there's much truth in either.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Hmm, I wouldn’t be too sure of their progress in identifying cheaper players. I’ve just been looking at Luke Plange’s stats on loan up at Carlisle and it doesn’t make for good reading. No goals, no assists, described as having no particular strengths and weaknesses identified in the air, inability to hold the ball up and failing to read offside situations. Another waste of money? Who knows, but it looks like he is way off playing for us at the moment.

You always end up only buying form, they either maintain form or they don’t, Luke’s form is just not where it was, and I suspect that might be the case with one or two more of the young lads we have paid decent money for.

Plange was well worth a punt at £1 million. He was playing first team football in the championship. I’m personally surprised he hasn’t kicked on yet. Same with Ebowei, but again he really looked a good prospect. I still think he has more of a chance as a mercurial winger with pace always up and down in younger years but has the raw pace and skill to succeed if gets his head and tactical nouse improved. Remember Eze was bumping around at Millwall and Wycombe at the same age. On another note if we spend £10 million over 3 seasons having a gamble on 10 youngsters is it any less productive than say a Riedewald signing has been? I know everyone goes crazy about signing Ferguson injured. Again he was a huge prospect on a free. All the youngsters wages aren’t particularly high (relatively) it’s the high wages that kill clubs like ours not necessarily structured transfer fees.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |
