I guess the decision for the Hierarchy of who to bring in if they decide to part with Roy will be can the new man get more out of the squad than Roy. The manager approached will have to decide if he can get a tune out of the 25 man squad we have got as history has shown new arrivals will be scarce.Difficult choices on both sides. In the meantime us fans just have to go with the flow.COYP

I’m not going to argue with any treatment handed out to someone who threw something, but to completely absolve the manager of any blame for performances is obtuse in the extreme. He has them playing poor football, it’s as simple as that regardless of the underinvestment.

Where did my post totally absolve him from blame?

I, and you, can name 20 previous palace managers that were not fit to tie Roy's shoelaces.

the problem is money & depth of our squad. Added to another injury-crisis. Our starting eleven have many flaws & weaknesses. Our bench is beyond a joke.

IMO this is the exact problem.Loans will not solve this. As a club we are just about financially ok to survive in the PL. Sooner or later as others are bought by deeper pockets we will be in a more and more difficult position.

I don't see the Cooper fascination, we apparently interviewed him after PV and he turned us down if my memory serves.

It's time for a new broom. Hodgson does have not any idea how to adapt to our injuries and lack of squad depth.

If he were to go against type and give the younger bench warmers an opportunity I would have sympathy but he is stuck in a groove and persists with his favourite journeymen. He always says he is making the best of a bad job but is he?

His substitute policy is laughable. What on earth is the point of putting Mateta on in the last ten minutes ( or at any time) ?

I say now is the time to change managers, dispense with him and Ray Lewington. Keep Paddy as an advisor and get a younger more progessive manager. Not sure about Cooper but presumably Potter is available and likely to utilise what we have more successfully.

I don't think the fans will continue to accept the current situation.

Such was the majority view of many with whom I engaged in conversation today.

However there were some who lamented the limitations in the squad and the options available to Mr Hodgson and highlighted the fact that Olise and Eze have only started 1 game together this season.

There has been much coverage of Roy's criticism of the fans as 'spoilt.'
I suspect at his press conference today he will row back from this position and apologise, just as he did previously for the unwarranted criticism of young players.
The problem is that many fans have already concluded that these reflect his own genuine views even if the apologies are welcomed.
It shouldn't taint the overall very good job he's done for the club, but there is an element of 'Iceland Roy' or 'Watford Roy' that we're seeing; an avoidance of taking responsibility, seeing anything wrong or self analysis.

Roy is effectively a caretaker manager and clearly, because of his age, is not for the longterm. His squad is wholly inadequate for the Premier League in terms of depth and quality. He did a very decent job for us last year but can only use the resources he has available from week to week. A fit squad would make all the difference.

I cannot help but think that criticism of RH ignores the real problem of a chronically thin squad exacerbated by injuries, poor recruitment and a lack of strategic vision.

RH can only do what he can do and any replacement is unlikely to be better placed. Yes, he isn't adventurous but the problems he faces aren't going to be fixed by him (or anybody else) suddenly being so.

Let's face it we're in a mess and our most talented players will surely be asking themselves if they want to hang around.

Agree, we should be careful what we wish for.

As someone pointed out , our two best players have only started one game together this season.

Everton looking like they will not be in the relegation fight.

I was hoping for 25 pts at the enf of the year, 20 looks more likely at best

Even last season, if you had taken Wilf, Eze, and Olise away from the last ten games ,we would almost certainly have gone down. And Roy would now be a bad memory.
This season for most of the way that’s exactly what has happened, personally I feel the club should have strengthened on the basis this situation was staring at them.
It has never been Hodgsons fault , there are some hands in cards, and football you can not win with, and he has been holding one most weeks this season.
Get a team, and get a manager maybe. But just blaming Hodgson.,in the belief there is someone out there who could turn this bunch of mainly very average, some going backwards rapidly players into real steady contenders , is in MHO wishful thinking.
For me only two and a half things can keep us in this league after the summer. 1 the club must invest well in January two, even three ready to use players. 2, everyone of our best 13/14 stays fit and plays week in week out. The half is Hodgsons ability to squeeze the last ounce out of any adverse situation.

For me, I just have this nagging feeling that when you appoint a 76 year old, who's at his last job and feels they have nothing to prove, how motivated are they going to be to really evolve, adapt and find a way to make something happen?

As much as I usually like his honesty post game, win or a lose, he's starting to come across as a very stubborn, inflexible old man who thanks to a lifetime on the sidelines feels he can't be taught anything, he knows best and if you don't like it?!? So what - he's 76 and in his last job.

Clearly the team is weak in terms of talent, and I know we have to be careful for what we wish for, but I personally feel if we had someone who wants to make this a career they'd be finding ways to involve Franca, JRS or just seemingly making an effort to find a solution rather than bringing on Mateta in the 87th minute.

At one point we looked like we were building a young, exciting team but my biggest concern based on the performances and faces trudging off the other night is he's lost the changing room, performances are dropping so come January JA, MG and maybe others will all be racing for the exit.

As I have previously posted, Roy has to accept some responsibility for the current situation. In my mind, his is team selection, preparation and tactics. He doesn’t have too many options in terms of selection and I’m sure his preparation is sound enough. Tactically we all know he’s rather inflexible.

What added to the frustration of the other night was Steve Parish’s pre match interview. He talks about his ambitions for the club, but his words sound hollow given the performance that followed and the signings made in the summer. Added to that, he said he will be looking in the loan market for experienced players in January. More short term planning as he starts to get the relegation jitters.

I’ve previously been behind Parish, but I’ve lost confidence in him. And his Director of Football.

Maybe I have been “ spoiled “ because I have been a supporter since 1967 and through all the dire times that have gone with that. Now I am struggling to raise any enthusiasm when the Club are in the top flight and playing against some of the best players in the world. So I’ve been through so much worse. I think I’m just bored with the inability of the Club to be anything more than Premier League survivors.
