One of my favourite pub moments was when a Jock in a Rangers shirt walked over to our table singing anti catholic songs. Many of my friends are catholic well before they could react a Big Glasgow Jock grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and told him to take his Sectarian bigotry back to Scotland, boot up arse and he left the pub Western style (flat on his face).

The thing is he my big mate was also a Rangers fan and he hated Celtic but he wasn't going to let that idiot get away with that.

i have always maintained that it is the job of the irish catholic community to repress the most hardcore 'RA supporting elements, in their midst. Ditto with mainstream Unionist types - as per your buddy above.

and i guess today, we can extend the same responsibility to any religious, political or ethnic enclave. The centre can only hold while the nutters on the extremes do not get to hijack the gig.

I think k it might have been a Rangers fan who pulled Gazza up for playing the flute after scoring his first goal in Scotland. A serious threat from what I remember.

Didn’t see it. Like it though.
I’ve always liked Rangers over celtic, as I’m Proud to be English/British. Rangers are massively pro British and celtic anti British/poppy/royal family.
Plus growing up Rangers always had a lot of English players (internationals).
In fact I like most things Rangers , mcoist, Gazza etc and dislike most things Celtic Lennon, sutton.
Went to my first old firm derby this year at Ibrox, no away fans/Rangers were poor and lost, but the place blew me away. It was mental up there, emotional when they come out to ‘simply the best’,it helped that my pal was the first team coach, so we was well looked after , had a tour of the ground, went on the pitch, sat in the dug out etc. it’s an old ground, but it’s amazing. In the trophy room , what a place, there’s a push bike lent up against the wall, apparently on a European night the opposition manager rode it to the ground and Gazza nicked it, so they put it in the museum, quality story.
if you are more pro Rangers than the other lot, go. It’s great.
Think they will nick the league now , Rodgers looks to have lost the plot and Rangers are flying.
Up the Gers.

Take it from me guys, we don't want to be associated with The Rangers in any shape or form. They are a bigoted, toxic, blight on football. I live in Edinburgh and can confirm that their support is full of neanderthal bottom feeders. Keep well clear.

Strange a lot say exactly the same things about Celtic as well.

If you read the whole thread you would see that I wrote about Rangers in a reply to a post that mentioned only Rangers. When others bought Celtic into the equation I made it clear that both clubs promote shameful behaviour. Two cheeks of the same arse!
The bile that erupts from both supports is encouraged so that the "religious" tension ensures mutual hatred and full grounds.
I am neither Catholic or Protestant and have no affiliation to any faith.
I live here (over 40 years)and see this constantly. If you want to take sides and pick one of them it's entirely up to you but all you have to do is read fans forums from all the other Scottish clubs and you will see that my posts here are quite mild in comparison.

Anyway COYP!

I read a book on the old firm a few years ago and it was really interesting, a lot of Rangers fans don’t consider themselves as Scottish, they like to think of themselves as British Glaswegian. Also which I found strange is a lot of them feel that strongly about it they actually follow the England national team rather than Scotland.

I’ve always wanted to do an old firm game, A Rangers fan living in the south I once knew told me if ever I got to do it, make sure with my English accent I’d definitely be safer in the Rangers end.
He also told me some great stories of every old firm game, in the part of Glasgow where it was fairly mixed, the day or two before and after you’d get fights breaking in the checkout queues in supermarkets, parents waiting for their kids to come out school would start having a go at each other, he said he even saw a fight break out in the dentist waiting room once

Some years ago I went to work in Edinburgh and was introduced to two colleagues next to my desk, one a Hearts supporter and the other Hibs. One asked me who I supported and when I replied ‘Palace’ he retorted “Ah..but is that Celtic Palace or Rangers Palace?”. A sad indictment of Scottish Football.!

I remember some idiot tried to hang a Rangers - Palace flag in the stand away at Arsenal a couple of years back. It was promptly torn down and rightly so.

I don't like Rangers and wouldn't want us associated with them in any way. I'd equally respect the same sentiment in relation to a Palace - Celtic flag, despite being bought up in an irish catholic family.

I like to think we are an inclusive fan base and we don't need any of that.

This didn't happen did it? And why would he be an idiot?

I don't know who owns the Palace Loyal flag but I've seen it at a number of away games over the years. No one has ever 'torn it down'.

For the record there is absolutely no comparison between Celtic and Rangers if you are English (Palace are an English club). You can easily go to Rangers with Palace colours/flag but you wouldn't get the same at Celtic. They hate the English, always have and always will.

It seems strange that people get offended when English people like Rangers but never question when the Irish follow Celtic en masse. Or Liverpool (the English Celtic).

Sectarian b*ll*cks is outdated and pathetic but for any Rangers fan not bringing that rubbish, I'd gladly welcome them to Palace. Celtic and their anti-English hate will never be welcome.

I stand by the content of my original post because all of the points I made are the result of living in Scotland for over 40 years and having exposure and immersion in all of the aspects mentioned. Most of the posts trying to make contradictory points do not have this background. I originally responded to a post soley concerning Rangers and Palace. I made further posts which included Celtic and Rangers being two cheeks of the same arse and would have made a similar original first post if the original
stories had mentioned only Celtic. Both of these clubs have a majority of supporters who have joined because of the stance on religious bigotry (catholics v protestants). I do not want Palace associated with either club in any way. This is a personal view from many years of experiencing this toxicity and not from limited or isolated incidents. A small showing of some affection for Palace from a few of these neanderthals should not be seized upon as some sort of "hands across the border". I will leave it at that as we mostly seem too far apart for meaningful debate.
