It's a mad world but I say £35 million (and rising) depending on his contract situation. You'll laugh but he's just a poor man's Haaland.

It all depends on who is available to replace him and how Glasner sees him fitting in. I have been very impressed with him in recent months. Perhaps there is even more to come from Mateta when Olise and Eze are playing off him. It feels like he has finally learned how to use his strength to his advantage. A very useful player to have in the squad both in performance and as a good character also

If you look at his finishing recently, it has been very good indeed. That back heel against Luton was instinctive and the early goal this weekend, he ran at their defenders and picked his spot, in off the far-post.

Is he getting the right service or getting in the right positions, timing runs? He can work on that. His value - to us - increases every time he plays and he may just be a season saver.

Be where you are; otherwise you will miss your life.

Many correspondents don’t seem to realise that JP was a two goal a game forward in both France and Germany before his transfer to Palace. We were lucky to get him as Mainz were desperate for money. Roy treated him with the same distain as he treated Sorloth, even after the Leicester goal which started the good run after Vieira and the hatrick against Plymouth. I always thought that selling him on would be a mistake as some other team would benefit at our expense. Everton were sniffing around during the summer window.
Our record with strikers is only poor because the wingers are poor at crossing the ball and rather selfish when it came to passing to others in better scoring positions. Zaha and Ayew provided only 3-4 assists each per season in the last five years. We saw an example of this on Saturday when in a 3 to 1 situation Ayew shot when a simple pass would guarantee us the lead again. No wonder OG was filmed taking the foetal position with his head in his hands!

erm, you might want to check that, if he was we wouldn’t have been able to afford him.

I've seen and probably made a few outrageous claims on this forum but I think that one may fall apart pretty quickly....

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Is there a striker in football history that falls into that category? I suppose if you score a brace on your debut then have to retire through injury

I don't know what he has been drinking these past months but he needs to hand it around to some of the others .

Most of us wouldn't have been too bothered if he had left for peanuts last summer just to get him off the books .I can only applaud him for sticking at it and proving to us all that he deserved to be in the side .

How much ? I don't know but at least he has proved he was worth the fee we paid , and some .

And we still need a striker

1. I think we've worked put you mean a goal every 2 games which has traditionally be the mark of a good striker.

2. I've posted on several occasions that Mateta was never given a decent run in the starting X!. It is well documented (ask Shearer, Lineker and other tops strikers) that strikers need a run of games to show what they're capable of. It's only taken Palace 3 years to give him the starting run he needed.

If he carries on performing and scoring during the rest of the season as he has been doing since December then the club may want to extend his contract beyond the current Summer 2026.

You were one of the few saying he should have an extended run
