He is one hell of a player now and will be in the England squad next season. Shooting I agree, needs improving but not sure why he needs to use his height effectively, Bernardo Sikva doesn’t. He can run with the ball but, the way we play he doesn’t need to

He scored a perfectly good goal from outside the box to help stop Scumwall from getting in the play offs last season!

He's a technical player but perhaps not Frank Lampard. Mainly due to the fact that he's a defensive midfielder so not that often up at the box. I believe he's a Deep Lying playmaker in today's parlance. He can strike a ball but it's always likely to be a long range effort. Interesting to see him take the odd free kick these days.

EFA.

Journalists?! You give them far too much credit. They sit behind their screens, fabricate a story, and hope it gets traction. They won't be getting a call from Reuters any time soon.

Yes they can. But for the right reason. Not this reason, as this transfer hadn't even occurred to them.

Correction. Understand Bayern told the compo was €100m which even they considered a little steep.

Sorry wrong Bayern thread.

The Times has devoted a full page to Wharton today - building on the fact that Southgate was there for the Man U game and even the BBC pundits have conceded he is one of a number of outstanding players on our books.

Headline “Adam Wharton is Champions League level’ – meet England’s next midfielder journalist GREGOR ROBERTSON if that helps your searc.

Worth a read:

One of the consequences of Glasner’s arrival and some astute buying from our board and in particular Freedman’s scouting and young player acquisition, is that our players will be linked to other clubs.

Whilst I hope they stay a while I’m enjoying our recent run of form but most importantly enjoying football at Selhurst probably more than ever.

Maybe it’s time to start singing “Glasner All Over” as the teams come out?

What does Champions League level mean? Good enough for Antwerp, Union Berlin or Celtic? It's just code for one of their pet teams.

I think we have at least 6 players capable of starting in a Champions League team.

Eze
Olise
Guehi
Anderssen
Wharton
And probably both keepers

Munoz
Lerma
Decoure

Would also make a champions league squad imho

Not bad given his things looked a few months ago

“Glasner All Over”

Agree, so we are on to something incredibly special, especially with Glasner in charge. Why would anyone choose now to leave when we are marching into the Champions League ourselves.

Reports saying he's subject of a 60m bid from Bayern. If true, that's a hell of a profit in 4 months.

But he's got another 5 years on his contract. For me, he's a 60m player with only 2 years left - when we'd consider 'cashing in'. 60m seems a bit low to me for someone who we have no obligation/need to sell.
Add to this that this is a position we've had issues filling adequately since Cabaye. We've got no replacement. Doucoure's still to come back, but is he as effective? neither he nor Hughes, Ahamada or Ozoh have got his ability and vision that's helped make the last month so enjoyable.

Of the 4 'stars'; Eze, Olise, Wharton and Guehi, I feel Wharton and Eze are the 2 we can't afford to lose. so much goes through them both.

The Wharton to Bayern speculation continues with most of the papers reporting that they're massively keen on him, especially now Kompany has gone there.

So my question, what kind of bid would it take for you to consider it? £60m? £80m? £100m?

He's truly a special talent and with him in the side we have a genuine chance of doing something special next season. However, a bid of £80m+ would massively boost our transfer kitty and would be phenomenal business just 5 months after signing him.

I genuinely hope we keep him but, either way, this is brilliant business from us.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
