the European shift to the right will either be...

a) Thatcher/LePen/Victor Orban

or

b) Hitler, Mussolini, General Franco

Cos the Left ( and centre ) is now a busted flush. Voted for by newcomers, Feminists, and Commie fruitcakes.

The Social Contract is broken. The Welfare State is discredited.
Europeans will no longer agree to pay the Jizya.

I just want to say that this idea that young people are becoming more progressive doesn't seem true in Europe at least.

In Germany for example, the AfD party are very popular statistically in the 16-24 age range.

I think the idea that young people are 'progressive' is a mistake. What young people want is for their options to improve....I know most of us are boomers but the simple truth is that we hold all the resources and they don't.

So young people are reacting against whoever is in power in their country....in Britain that's the pathetic Tories but across Europe it's been the left or centre.

No, because to do so would point to particular posts and posters and I not going to do that.

See if you can spot it.

Nope I canít see one racist on here. I see posters with a less liberal point of view than you about getting illegal immigrants gone. If thatís racism then your bar is very low!

illegal immigrants are not a race. Nor are most religions.

Lefties love to confound things. Just to confuse everybody.

you say ''i hate rape gangs'' and lefties reply that you are racist. Its a lazy argument. A straw man. Easily shattered. The Red Army, Germany 1944, was a gigantic Rape Gang.....and all white men doing the raping.

I agree with your first two sentences. Thatís not racism. Not your last.

Opposing criminal behaviour of any kind is not racist.

Itís refreshing to see some well argued common sense here in the midst of the usual mix of unrealistic populist drivel, closet racism, uneducated rudeness and the occasional intellectually sound but politically skewed contributions.

I have a small group of friends but a much larger group of regular acquaintances. Politics donít usually feature much in our conversations, more bowls and football dominate. Right now itís understandably different. The strange thing is that despite the general disenchantment with the Tories and politics in general I havenít heard a single one suggest they will vote Reform.

As an aside, when the conversation last week turned to Trump even I was staggered by the voracity of the dislike that poured forth. Compared to my colleagues I am a fan.

Which all goes to confirm what I have long believed. That this is an extremely unrepresentative corner of the world where people gather to have their biases confirmed and egos massaged. Opinions here are worth hearing but only because you can get familiar with the thinking.

Your friends are clearly as deluded as you. Birds of a feather...

Yes, that applies to you too.

Uneducated? what's the test for that?

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I donít think thatís in any way true. Most of England is rural and not urban. Itís just that the population density is far lower there. There is much more space, less traffic, cheaper housing, less noise, less pressure and in our case the coast too. If thatís deluded then I am glad to be.

Find the short uncouth comments that have little relationship to the discussion and you will have found the test.

Glad that you live in such a lovely place. However I note that not everyone is Cornwall is as welcoming as you are. Less traffic less noise cheaper housing, is something most of us would like. However all the while this country continues to increase it's population then this will become less and less and more and more people will become Nimby's.

Having lived in many places in the UK I find that the people here are the least Nimby type I have lived among. They welcome new developments as necessary to sustain growth, ensure housing is available for the young and the incomers we are seeing who come to fill the vacancies. Thereís much more Nimbyism in crowded places where green space is at a premium.

The idea that we are ďfullĒ is often held by those who live in crowded urban areas. It just isnít true. Thereís actually lots of room elsewhere where sensible, well planned development can happen. It just needs to be structured correctly with infrastructure being thought about before anything else.
