Dougie Freedman! kept the club from being in Huddersfields position with that goal at Stockport! Pure class, pure emotion, what footballs all about! Ignore what you think about his recent performances he's getting on a bit. He's been a great servant to the club in my opinion as have the others mensioned. He also gave money back into the supporters trust even after he had gone. He is a Legend!!Noone can say otherwise each to their own I suppose.

ive been scrolling through the posts and i am ashamed NOT to see the namr PETER SIMPSON A player that had played 180 League and 15 FA Cup games, scoring a fabulous 153 League and 12 FA Cup goals to establish a tally which no one at the club has ever approached, either before or since. I am dissapointed with every one on this board PETER SIMPSON is the one true legend of CRYSTAL PALACE FOOTBALL CLUB Edited by MacMan (02 Oct 2004 7:26am)

mcMan I remember Peter Simpson and as you say he was a great player and did every club he played for proud. I would think most people who know the name of Peter Simpson would remember him more for Playing at Arsenal with the likes of Bob wilson, Charlie George, Frank McLintock, Bob McNab, John Radford and George Graham to name but a few back in the late 60's and early 70's. He was indeed a fantastic defender and earnt every penny of the pittance they got in those days.. HE ALSO EARNT EVERY PENNY AT PALACE ALSO....OH FOR THE LIKES OF HIM TODAY!!!!!
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

I will never forget Don Rogers but I don't think he played that many games for us. I believe you have to be talking about players who played for us for 4 seasons at least to even think about considering them.

Certainly NOT Peter Simpson was a TOP player and if you were to go onto one of the "Old Time Players" web pages you will see exactly how good he was!!!!

Yes but surely having played up front for Palace (from memory) in the immediate post-war period he would have struggled to hold down a place at full-back in Arsenal's double-winning side of 1971. Are you getting him confused with Peter Storey?

Steve I found this in the Football Archives Quote from Football History: Arsenal:60's - 70's Frank McKlintocks career at Highbury had yet to peak because even better things were to come in the 1970-71 season. Our Championship win that season was based on a solid defence, the best in the League, where we conceded just 29 goals in 42 League games. Frank played in every game that season the first 17 league games saw him playing alongside the dependable Welshman John Roberts at the back. When Peter Simpson returned from injury his partnership pairing with Frank formed a solid defensive foundation that was to last till the end of the season and yield two trophies. Simpson and McLintock were more than just defenders though; they both knew how to pass the ball and were equally comfortable breaking forward with it.
