I was travelling in South America earlier this year and kept bumping into a bloke who seemed to have a collection of shirts that he was wearing throughout Peru and Chile.

The strangest though was checking out sports shops in Buenos Aires where I found a shop selling a Palace shirt! So excited I explained in my very bad Spanish what a great team they were and how I had to take a photo - which I'll send in when I find it - in amongst the Racing, River Plate, San Lorenzo (also Red and Blue) and Independiente shirts. I think they thought I was nuts and indulged me. They didn't even mention the Falklands!

Sod JJB if you want the real thing, even if it was a couple of seasons out of date, go to Argentina.

I've had my pic taken with Mickey Mouse at Disneyland Paris wearing the 96/97 home kit.(cue "mickey mouse club" comments from every non-palace fan who's seen it) - if I had a scanner that worked I'd send it in.

My shirt always goes on holiday with me and always gets its pic taken at the beach/hotel/interesting landmark.

I also wore it in the home end at the g*ldstone once, and won 4 pints of lager for doing so, but I did wear a fleece over the top of it.

Turned out quite a good post I think.

To change the subject slightly, who is the most famous person you have ever seen in a Palace shirt?

Sorry to go back to the original topic Logic, but my favourite time of wearing a Palace shirt was when I had arranged a business trip to Liverpool when we were playing at Anfield in the League. My host who was an avid Liverpool fan had got us tickets for the game in a Liverpool section of the ground and couldn't believe his eyes when I turned up in my Palace shirt and scarf. The section was quite close to the Palace fans and during one Palace attack when I was jumping up and down some Palace fans spotted me and chanted "Stevie Coppell's red 'n' blue army" up at me. I of course responded to them and then others joined in until most of the Palace end were chanting "Stevie Coppell's red 'n' blue army" up at me with my lone voice chanting it back at them. Excellent! My host and a good proportion of the people around didn't appear to be very happy and I think things could have gone worse for me had it not been for the fact that we got stuffed (3-0?). Anyway, brilliant feeling, and if you were one of the Palace fans chanting up at me, thanks for the memory!

The strangest place i've seen another fan would be in paphos, cyprus when a market stall owner was wearing the 97/98 shirt with lombardo on it. but when i went to question him he didn't speak a word of english.

I`ve worn one in the home end at the Goldstone and the Den but under my jacket-I`m not a complete idiot.I was still fearful of discovery and the resultant lynching that would have ensued but won a nice wager although I aged several years in 90 minutes.

I have worn my shirt to various places around the globe.......... Poland.....USA........ Egypt.......... Rhodes.............. Cyprus......... the Arsenal North bank.............we won 2-0 and John Salako scored both goals and I stood up and cheered when we scored and got some dirty looks and comments.............. but my 7" tall gooner supporting bro told em to shut the f*** up and they did.

A the Grimsby game a certain Monkey may well end up wearing his in a most unusual place............

Edited by Penge Eagle (10 Nov 2002 2:08pm)

I was at the Arsenal game - with my shirt on! But after the second goal I put my coat on (I was getting cold), my brother in law (gooner) is only 5 foot

Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season?

I've also worn my shirt and scarf on show amongst the home fans at Bristol City, but only in the platinum seating, so no riff-raff. I definately wouldn't have risked it in some sections of the ground.

One place where things got a bit scary, even though I wasn't wearing my palace shirt, was Fratton Park. I was on the terracing in the Pompey end and when Palace scored, I forgot where I was until mid-celebration I realised that about a thousand people were staring at me with quite unfriendly expressions. I quickly relocated, being shoved and gobbed at the whole way, until I got to a bit where they hadn't noticed me. I kept quiet after that, even when the final whistle went to signal a 1-0 win.

I never have, but my step dad always tells the story of how he celebrated when we scored a last minute winner at the den. He was sitting with a millwall mate in the home end and had shoes thrown at him by the millwall fans

"It's the old, old story - droid meets droid, droid becomes chameleon, droid loses chameleon, chameleon turns into blob, droid gets blob back again. Blob meets blob, blob goes off with blob and droid loses blob, chameleon and droid. How many times have we seen that story?"
