I would say Stevie Winwood was a better soul singer than Tom Jones who is often thought of as the best white man with a black man's voice (to quote Peter Cook -the americans have their soul singers and we have are sole singers - but not in the case of Stevie and Tom), but if I was in tailback on a motorway and Winwood cut me up on the inside sneaking up the hard shoulder I would say: "Winwood, NO!!! it's not just you in traffic at the moment careful son or I'll have a hole in my shoe by the time I've finished with you, and I'd have right on my side.

Out of leftfield, Billy Corrigan from the Pumpkins has an amazing voice.

Was thinking about this, sometimes it's about genre. I doubt Sam Cooke could have fronted a band like Bauhaus, likewise, Pete Murphy would have been shocking in the Four tops (yes I know Sam Cooke wasn't in the 4 tops...) Who was / is the best Goth frontman?

Who was / is the best Goth frontman? I always rated Karl McCoy from the The Fields of the Nephilim. His voice really shines on Elysium and Earth Inferno.
