Interesting article in the Independent today suggests Big Sam has taken on more than he bargained for because of Pardew's "notable tactic" of removing teams' strong characters wherever he manages. This makes sense of AP's streaks because all is fine when it's going well but you need the Jedi's when it's going t1ts up. Like last night. At least Hennessey was doing some yelling.

The slight problem I have with this theory is that Jedinak was largely poor last year when he did play. It's all well and good saying we need players like that when it goes tits up, but his record with the team in the second half of last season was P19 W1 D7 L11. It was already going tits up last season with him on the pitch and having very little impact.

Speroni? Maybe, but he's still in the dressing room and would be able to influence the team in that way, as Jedinak and McCarthy supposedly did last season? From a performance point of view, I'm not really sure goalkeeping is our biggest issue at the moment.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

"this catastrophic performance will guarantee that he is allowed to bring in his own players".

It’s this thought that gives me optimism.

I repeat what I said when Jedi went - this will prove to be Pardew's single biggest mistake - and so it has proved to be.
Not everyone thought the best of Jedi's game but how we could have done with him recently.
He would have organised, galvanised, won headers we are not winning and tackled properly.
We need a strong defensive midfield player urgently (along with others of course)and yet AP took the Captaincy away from him (without telling him first if the story is to be believed) and then sold him.
What a T***er!

I don't want to sound like I am defending Pardew all the time but Jedinak at the time said Pardew had told him

We kept losing with Jedinak playing last year

The mistake was not getting an upgrade

Pining for players who are past it or others like Gayle who had years to prove themselves and to be one of the first names on the team sheet but failed just shows how awful we have become.

The truth is, on paper at least, the best fifteen players in the squad now are mostly better footballers quality wise than the best fifteen we had three seasons ago.

What they haven't got now is drive, desire and shape. That's why we will get relegated.

Great article I thought... Sam has a massive job on his hands. Trying to galvanise a team that has been pretty poor for 12 months now.

The banners and 'holier than thou' attitude of some Palace fans at his appointment baffles me. People pining for Pardew is nothing short of ridiculous and pathetic. Look at our squad... Threadbare and average... And whose fault is that??

The bloke has had 10 days in the job in what is well known to be the worst 2 weeks of the season with regards to fixture congestion... what did people expect for us to be pinging the ball around like Barca?

This is gonna take time. When you've been s*** for 12 months and a rot has set in you can't just snap out of it. He has got a lot of fixing to do of someone else's damage.

Maybe we should get behind him and the team rather than making ourselves look more like the geordie supporters we love to hate by holding up pathetic banners and the like after 10 days.

Spot on

Just read this in the I paper. Very well written sensible article. Speroni and delaney I feel are our most natural leaders and with speronis experience and level headed nature he could be a real anchor for the team if utilised properly

Interesting , the opposite to Cabaye , who when he does not play we keep winning.

We need to sell Cabaye then maybe we could use his wages to get a Jedinak type player , the McJedly midfield was better than anything that included Cabaye.
If we had a Benteke type forward with McJedly, it would have been very interesting.

In the interests of fairness, I cannot remember a time where our squad had real depth and quality on the bench. We were a bit lucky I think in our first and second seasons in the top flight, to avoid any major injuries to key players (other than Murray in season 1). A few games here and there, but nothing too serious in terms of vital players.

Now we've got problems. Our most experienced team member is our physio!

Agree banners are a bit much but some sections of fans feel it's the only way to get their feelings across. Whilst I have read some posts on here and elsewhere from people who liked pardew and felt his tactics and style would come right in time I feel (as I wrote on another thread yesterday) that at a time when we need to be united and get behind the team allardyces arrival has split the fan base in two. He is a marmite character anyway and his England exploits haven't helped matters. People are not happy that he is now associated with our club.

Confidence as well.

Are we the worst team in the league? No. Were we the fourth best team a year ago? No.

The truth is probably somewhere in between.

It seems bleak now, but a couple of new players and some time to work with the squad and we could look a completely different team.

I hope the Ref's think we look like Man U , then we will get some decisions.
