Agree with the above, Old Fella.

There are more and more players creeping into our team who openly
don't give 100%. I say openly, they're just playing football. But you can tell by their body language that the full time result sometimes
isn't really worth going that extra mile for. Is it coincidence that these
players have come from much bigger and more successful teams than little old Crystal Palace?

Cabaye and Townsend are far superior players to Shaun Derry and Clint Hill but I know which ones had more pride wearing the red and blue.

My first game was Palace v Acrington Stanley (was that 9-2 ?).
I feel privileged to have seen so many great players over the years, many in our shirts.
I thought perhaps I was the only one who frets over Saturdays.
I look forward to the weekend so much... nervous of course but usually positive and thankful that my team is different. But it hurts so much when we play badly... weekend is ruined & I'm down for days.

My last game was Swansea Home and I was in the Holmesdale Lower. We were poor first half but I was appalled at the booing of our own players at half-time. Is this support??? It was certainly support for the oppo. I don't want to be in a crowd like that.
So now (even though it's an easy trip) I'd rather watch via media than travel to the ground.
Watching the Wet Spam game wasn't great. I wondered what a difference Wilf would have made.
It seems things are conspiring against us ... even a car crash!
But we have been lucky.... we're not quite in the zone yet. That's amazing considering our results.

One thing that never gets old for me is walking down behind the Holmesdale after the game with a mix of people going in either direction and the occasional yell of "EAGLES" dotted amongst the crowd, and again at Selhurst station when I am with a lazy person that can't be bothered to walk back to East Croydon. The day I don't yell EAGLES at random (sometimes mid conversation with someone) is the day I'll feel like I have given up on the match day experience.

Being Honest i much prefer away games, Always have and probably always will.
Its the whole match day experiance meeting up with mates for breakfast, into away territory early doors for a few hours of drinking and watching the pub fill up with the regular away fans, taking over the pub then walking on mass to the ground. The intensity was much better in the 80's the atmosphere and edge that it could kick off at any second.

Its a part of it, the suffering. Nothing in recent years has come close to Hillsborough, truth be told. I try to make a day of it though, meet up with a few people I might otherwise never have known, have a few beers with them (and then a few more) and catch the last fast train home.

That way, at least, win or lose, there is always something special in the trip to Selhurst park. Its not really about the game, its the people, the atmosphere and the belonging (along with overpriced beer in the Red and Blue bar, finding someone else in your seat in the AW, crammed in shoulder to shoulder with 5000 or so other people in the same misery, hoping for that special moment, that turns everything into joy.

Then being to drunk to get the key in the front door, busting for a piss, terrorfied that you're not going to make it to the bog in time.
