See if we let Sakho go and replace with a similarly technically qualified player - which in itself would mean top drawer - we could be making the same Pardewesque mistake of building the squad around technical skills only. The leadership, character and sheer hard steel that Sakho has added to the defense as a unit was apparent last night when he wasn't on the pitch and we saw the same with Jedinak. That's not to say that there aren't other men who can do that, but it's certainly the case that many of the so-called top defenders in the game can turn into pussycats at the slightest provocation, including having one of their buddies out of action. Arse defence without Koscielny was a f***ing shambles, for example. Edited by chateauferret (25 Apr 2017 1.10pm)
