As you will know we were a net exporter of gas for some years and we had little or no storage facilities - unlike say Germany. But now North Sea production is way down on historic highs and we are now net importers and that is more expensive.

The AA p1ss me off. Each year they do the current trend of increasing your membership as an existing member.

Each year, phone call threatening to leave and they lower it to new member price. I subscribed to a guaranteed frozen price last year or year before that lasted 2 years I think.

Even just a phone call to your existing energy supplier will get you off the variable tariff and onto a cheaper fixed one. It won't be as cheap as the small companies offering best prices but it'll be £30 or £50 off it. Just a phone call.

Me and my Mrs bought a blanket each. We don't use any electricity or gas. Sometimes we want to watch a movie so I take my laptop to work and charge it up and download the film. Then we come home and eat cold beans while we huddle round the latest blockbuster on my laptop.

Oh what luxury! Me and my Mrs have one blanket between us. We don't have gas or electricity in our caravan, and therefor have not got the electricity to charge up a laptop to watch a film, even if we could afford one! We also have a tin of beans, but didn't have enough money to purchase a tin opener as well. And as for the entertainment, we play Naughts and Crosses on paper!! If any ink is left in the pen I purchased from the club shop in 1979! You're lucky lucky Ba****d.

Companies like British Gas rely to a large extent on people not bothering to shop around

Correct.

Well that's nothing. We get up before we've even gone to bed. We work a 25 hour day and have to pay for the privilege.

We watched telly through the window of Rumbelows but they shut down. Does Bet Lynch still run the Rovers? What's been happening in Eldorado.

We only import a very small amount of our electricity so the devaluing of sterling shouldn't affect the price by that much
