In other news and observations, the roof between the new main stand and Holmesdale does not link up and cannot cover the planned seating in that corner. I doubt it'll be where season ticket holders would choose to sit but if it's cheaper some may do.

I've never liked the Holmesdale roof. God knows why Noades stuck that thing on when it's pretty obvious it cannot be continued around the stadium with new stands or linked to current ones. Probably cos it was cheaper and he was hoping to let go of the club when it actually was a yo-yo club.

I might be wrong but I am of the understanding that the Holmesdale stand cost £8 Mill.I believe that Noades said he could raise £2.3 mill from long term season tickets, £2 Mill each from Wimbledon and CPFC Grant Aid.
Lottery money killed off grants hence delay in planning permission meant that Grant Aid money was not available.

Kindly correct me if this is a load of old hogwash.

Yes, but i wouldn't criticise Noades too much for that because at least he got it done and opened up cheap tickets to loads of Palace fans. He was an arrogant man but his heart was definitely with Palace. I don't think it would be that difficult to roof over that corner as part of a new roofing scheme for the Arthur and because of that I would leave seating in that area until a decision is made on improving the Arthur. You don't really want totally uncovered seats, or standing areas, in a modernised ground.

The Holmesdale Stand was much needed and a vast upgrade on the terrace just like the proposed new main stand will be a massive upgrade on what is currently in place. And let's not forget the then new Whitehorse stand.

I recall the old Holmesdale terrace with the grass bank at the top and where one was exposed to the elements.Sodden from head to foot and all that. My goodness the Holmesdale Stand was much needed and really added value to Selhurst Park.

Just make the whole, three quarters or half of the AW safe standing and put a new roof and facilities in there, that would increase the capacity by... well, quite a few I should imagine? Put the away fans in new seating in the corner between the Whitehorse and the far end of the AW and encourage all of the Holmedsale faithful who want to stand to move into the Holmesdale end of the AW where they will be more visible. That would then open up more seats in the Holmesdale for those who want to sit down. Safe standing would be very popular IMO.

Safe standing is a possibility but the Whitehorse is tragic. At some point, we must increase it. That should be the next phase of planning as soon as this one is complete.

Spent many a match on the old terrace but some of the big seventies games on there were memorable. You never get a feeling like that at football anymore. I wouldn't want to do it now. I'm getting too old.

I was 65 at the end of November so I know you feel !

When I go to non-league matches I certainly don't join those who stand behind the barriers and always avail of a seat in the stand.

I absolutely love standing on Exeter's Big bank terrace and the noise is incredible when full and the game is a good one. It has a roof which helps.

Try watching Albion Rovers at home. Those pies and those bogs are a lethal combination.

I beg to differ...when it was built there was a model of the proposed full Selhurst park renovation in his office which showed all four stands having the same roof line covering the corners....the fact it turned out that the houses built behind on the old school grounds subsequently meant that couldnt happen as the depth of the Main Stand needed to be reduced substantially from what was anticipated wasn't known at the time...but it explains the reasoning for the roof on the holmesdale.

In addition he wanted a roof design that projected sound onto the pitch...which to be fair it does.

Celtic legend Tommy Gemmell managed the club.

Cannot say I have ever been to the ground but if I do and avail of a pie hopefully it won't have the same effect on me ! As my wife has said to me "You have the constitution of an ox" !

28th November I do believe..The star sign is Sagittarius which is supposed to provide a thirst for adventure and a positive outlook. While others love to stick to routine and what is familiar, you would much rather have a new and exciting experience.

You take to the world with positivity and optimism, which explains why you always are able to find the best in situations and people. Your family, friends, coworkers and peers appreciate these qualities and are greatly inspired by your company.
