Oh really big man so you think Bentekes performances have been way better than Hennessey, I'm comparing those two as they have both been our worst performers but one cost 3mill the other cost 30mill

For a start Speroni has been in goal for half the season, with him and Hennesey making about the same number of appearances this season. If memory serves its about 13 or so each.

And your comparing an outfield players contribution to a goal keepers which is bonkers.

I don't see what his price tag and wages have to do with it at this point? He's already here, we're not discussing a new contract or buying him again?

He is contributing to the team, and in the last few games he's contributed to roughly the same amount of goals as Wilf?

By contributed I mean he has either scored, assisted or been heavily involved in the build up to.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Rightly or wrongly, strikers are judged on the amount of goals they score and whether they are a success or failure is determined by the number of times they hit the back of the net.

Benteke has only scored 1 goal in 17 games so one can understand the 'Negatives' against him, despite the part he has played in some of our goals.

You make some good points.

Of course I don't want him chasing every lost cause and being piggy in the middle when the centre backs are back and forth. But there is a wrong and a right time to press. This is what I mean by his football brain. At the right time he doesn't go.

My biggest concern with his work rate however is his desire to beat that defender to the near post etc. He just doesn't seem to get himself anywhere near those full stop. His positional play is bad. How often to you see him lurking about on the edge of the box when he should be getting across the defender in the 6 yard box.

He was called a statue when he was at Liverpool and that was with better service than we give him on the whole.

A busted flush in my opinion

Fair question. In my personal opinion, his job is to be the focal point / link man when we have the ball and when we don't have the ball his job is to either hassle central defenders in his vicinity so they don't get loads of time to pick a pass or to plug up their passing channels.

He can't do this if he's running around chasing everything without the ball (Cameron Jerome / Frazier Campbell style) and his job isn't to run the channels as we then have no-one in the middle to play the ball to.

Hard work from a frontman for the sake of it doesn't make him effective. Hard work, like outmuscling the Burnley player to get on the ball and then pick just the right ball to release Sako for the goal, is the hard work I want him to be doing.

This all just says that you have a different view of what "hard work" from our number 9 should be to others, probably including Roy given that Tekkers is most certainly now doing exactly what the managers wants (apart from stick chances away).

My issue with benteke isn't the lack of goals or assists, isn't the fact that his work rate is terrible and isn't the fact that he's our most expensive signing of all time it's all of them combined. If your lazy but banging the goals in no problem, if your not scoring but working your socks off no problem but you can't be on 1 goal for the season and have a shot work rate when we are in a relegation battle. I compared him with Wayne because I feel these two are the worst performers of the season irrespective of what roles they play in the team.

No one has said a lucky punt. Thats words from your mouth (or keys) only.

My point being, People get excited about Benteke lifting the ball over the defender and out to the wing. Not a difficult pass. Was hardly a defence splitter ala Jack Wilshire to Sanchez.

You see balls of that standard and much better in many Saturday/Sunday grass roots games.

But credit where its due. At least it stayed in play!

I have played football thank you. As previously agreed it may not have been sublime but you seem to suggest it was a lucky punt. He was fully aware of where Sako was and was a very good pass.

Just to add from previous post, I compared him with Hennessey as I feel they are both our worst performers this season, yet one earns 6x as much as the other and is our record signing, the other cost us 3mill.

irrelevant as one is completely different to the other, you may as well compare a show jumper to a jockey, essentially the same thing in riding a horse, but massively different in terms how its done.

Any comparison your making between the two simply doesn't work.

Judging by your statement about Benteke you would rather have Shane Long in the red and blue ?? becuase of his work rate etc ??

Don't get me wrong Benteke looks to be a busted flush, but as they saying goes form is temporary, class is permanent and I think his form is returning with his confidence.

You don't seem to understand what I'm saying, the two players in question are the two players who have massively underperformed this season, however one of the players is our most expensive signing in the history of the club and highest earner, the other is one of our lowest earners at the club and only cost 3mill. I've never moaned about Hennessey for those reasons even though his performances have been equally as bad as bentekes. You also can't fault henessey s attitude and commitment, I can't say the same about benteke.

So your opinion is worth more than mine because you played football once and I live in Scotland?

Wonderful logic that.

I tell you what. My son regularly watches Real Madrid. He thought it was an excellent ball. And he plays football, too. So by your own logic you're wrong. OK?

Still, some people would prefer to make themselves look like the village idiot than accept that a player they pathologically hate can do something right once in a while. Look at all the pathetic Hennessey threads. They're an absolute disgrace.

Haha, I'm not saying my opinion is worth more than yours but you had a dig at me. My response about Ayr was banter. Put your dummy back in fella.

Look, Ive said it. the pass was f*** all special. everything else has been said on my feelings towards the player.

This is not a witch hunt. Its an opinion and I'm entitled to one.

As for the village idiot and the reference to the Hennessey thread. are you saying its a disgrace I have an opinion??

I don’t understand why a full international footballer, who’s main strength is heading, runs in a straight line through the middle of the penalty box and hopes the ball will land on his head. Even strikers over the local park peel off to the back post then dart to the front post or check their run to try to lose the Center back. He just runs next to the Center half.
He has, luckily had quite a few this season, land on his head, he gets up well, higher than the cross bar. But fails to head it down.
If he gets a few before the end of the season and there’s interest from China , I’d sell him and put the money towards a time machine that can bring us a 25 year old Mark Bright/Chris Armstrong.
