You can somewhat accept it with a player who has the quality to back it up. But an average at best striker doing this to force a move? No thanks. Even if he is just to bolster the squad.

Just bolstering the squad doesn’t seem enough anyway up top. As, if Benteke has another season like last, who comes in who can be defined definitively as anything more than an OK squad player? Sorloth is nowhere near the level for me. Foolish to rely on Wickham, who even before a horrendous injury wasn’t exactly Harry Kane.

We should be looking for first team quality up front.

I like this signing if true, he fits everything that was right with Palace last season. Our best football was played where players up top could drift across the front 3, the opposition couldn't handle us especially at home. With Benteke up top, it leaves us static and one dimensional, whipping the ball into the box in the hope it lands on his head which is easier to defend against. With Ayew we get more mobility, more pace, more running with the ball down the centre to add to what we already have on the wings with Zaha and Townsend.

Ok, good analysis. But why does Palace need Jordan Ayew to make that movement and running? There are already Zaha, Townsend, Meyer there.
Fans keep saying he's a Frazier Campbell type of player but much better. Absolutely, but Campbell was a 4th choice striker who didn't cost 5 million, but was worth 1 million max. I'd love for Ayew to come as 4th striker for 1 million. But he has a different cost and everything needs to be analysed according to what you get for the money you pay.

Better give Kaikai the chance to make thise runs you talk about. He already has in pre-season more goals than Jordan Ayew in his season with Swansea 2 years back.

Where to start.

Meyer has been converted to a DM & has been bought in to replace Cabaye therefore nothing like the position we're talking.

Townsend is mainly supply & cannot play CF.

Wilf has improved his goal scoring & has adapted his game to be able to play as part of a front 2 but he still seems at his best on the left.

We have 3 CF's - all of whom are fairly immobile relative to Ayew so he would add something different to the attack & has the experience to do so. Kaikai has looked out of his depth every senior game I've seen him in (much as I'd love him to prove himself).

If Roy is looking for an experienced, dependable, flexible squad player capable of scoring a few & adding a different dimension to the team then he seems an ideal pick. If he's around the £8m mark then he's no dearer than Villa paid for him 3 years ago.

If Swansea were still a PL team I'd agree but it's entirely possible that he simply wants the chance to play at the higher level.

Going into the new season without a proven (recent season) goalscorer is disappointing. I'm not saying Parish and co haven't tried their best, but the reality is that we haven't addressed our most pressing issue.

We don't have any in-form strikers. Bentecke, Wickham, Sorloth. Lets stop pretending. I'd like to be proven wrong but I honestly can't see it right now.

Hopefully Bentecke will have a better season but the signing we are looking for is a proven goal scoring striker - which to be fair is one of the most illusive positions on the pitch at times.

Look at Moratta at Chelsea, he's been bog standard. It's not an easy role to fill.

You take the risk with Meyer. As the potential upside could be huge.

Not sure what the point is with Ayew. Take the risk on a player with an attitude just in case he turns out to be average.

At this price, we could do better.

It's called strength in depth, building a squad, really isn't that hard to understand even for a grown up surely!!

I have seen Kaikai live several times and unfortunately I do not believe he will make the grade in the Premiership. Against Ipswich last year Lokilo was head and shoulders above him especially with the off the ball movement. Matteo your obsession with stats is frustrating, who did Kaikai score against? Anyone that resembled Premiership opposition? No! Jordan Ayew has Premiership experience and given the right team will be a good squad addition.

Sako has not been replaced in the squad and this is why Antonio and Ayew are linked. Both are versatile, pacy and can play across the front line as well as chipping in with goals.
Makes sense to me and I hope that one of them joins.
If nobody joins we’re looking at Kaikai fulfilling the role.
While I like the idea of bringing through our own players I’m not sure he is the answer.

Of course, he have a salary that has been docked by relegation so that would be another reason he wants to get back to our league
