The trouble in Paris will look like a jolly boys' outing if Brexit is frustrated.

All credit to the French. At least they've correctly identified who the enemy is.

Why don't you start getting angry with the arseholes who tucked you up instead of with us?

You're trust in the nation's leaders isn't any lower than ours is.

If you mean that I should have known that politicians were going to screw us, yes I have always suspected that would happen.

Don't be too happy about that. It will be a dark day for this country if Parliament cancels Brexit. The darkest day.

Precisely, we're being totally mugged off by our government but apparently it's all the fault of Muslims and immigration. The right wing clicktivists will never realise they're being played

I just want to double check. Britain did vote to leave the EU in 2016?

Yesterday was a black day for the Brexit camp. A motion sponsored by Dominic Grieve was passed by the house which effectively means that a No Deal Brexit is ruled out. It also makes it more likely that a 2nd referendum will be called for.

Just heard Dominc Grieve on the radio the way he was talking the question will be something like do you agree with Theresa's May's deal? Yes you support the deal No we stay in the EU.

This is what the establishment has wanted all along a "Hobson's Choice"*. I cannot vote for May's awful deal and yet I cannot vote to remain either. Many Brexiteers will feel that way so the Remainers will win.

If and its a big if this does happen I predict politics is going to get nasty and violent. I hope that Parliament does not go down this road. If May will not or cannot get a better deal we must just leave without one, anything less is a betrayal of the people.

*No real choice.

I can never quite agree with the logic that we have to somehow cut our nose off to spite our face and slavishly abide by a binary vote, surely we are all more intelligent than that and should do whatever is best for the country right now?

Whilst I did promise myself not to post on this thread again, I'd like to make two points.

First, I am utterly disgusted. Parliament might well hold the government in contempt, but that contempt is a mere shadow of the contempt I suspect many hold parliament in. If Brexit has shown us one thing, it is that we, as the electorate, do not hold the political power in this country.

Secondly, I am confused about the Grieve amendment. This is an amendment on a motion (May's capitulation to the EU). How can it have legal effect unless that act is passed and given Royal assent? If the motion is voted down (seems likely), then the amendment goes with it. This does not bind the government. Parliament has the power to amend proposed legislation, not initiate future as-yet-unspecified legislation.

Yes Danny it did. But we aren't going to be leaving.

Why?

Because you were offered something that the Government is not willing to give you.

Which Government?

This tory one.

What you gonna do about it?

This's the bit I like. I don't know exactly but I suspect that it's curtains for the miserable, self-serving conservative and unionist party.

And there was MUCH rejoicing.
