Perhaps the point being made in the original post which has been lost is that we can win, and win well, playing good football.
Our most negative performances against the likes of Chelsea, Burnley and Newcastle have resulted in defeats in any event.
Defend strongly by all means with our ageing defenders, and allow Zaha and Eze to flourish.
None of us can say for sure that playing attractively will result in worse results.
We weren’t exactly on the front foot playing attractively when we had that terrible losing run at the end of last season .

I’m content with our points total so far this season, and playing attacking football against Man U, Leeds, WBA has made a significant contribution.
Like the original poster, I would like that to continue and don’t see it as contentious.

Leeds can be very 'Open' and defensively are hardly watertight.Only struggling WBA have conceded more goals than Leeds.
At WBA we scored 4 goals when they were down to 10 men but of course credit to the team for taking advantage of the situation.

Overall, given the make-up of our squad the pragmatism of Mr Hodgson is in my humble opinion the better option whilst accepting that on many occasions the football has been abject and far from entertaining.

We’ll have to agree to disagree.
Football is to be enjoyed not endured.

I think a lot depends on who the opponents are. I would like to see us being more adventurous against the teams around and below us and (when they're misfiring as Manure were in our second game) against bigger teams.

Ultimately (whether we like it or not) football in the PL is a results business due to (to use that quaint old term) 'filthy lucre'. Money is king in the PL, sadly, and if we want to continue playing against the big boys then a pragmatic approach is most likely to keep us there.

If Schlupp had not been injured on Saturdays we are unlikely to have had the pleasure of witnessing Eze’s goal on Saturday - already acclaimed as a candidate for goal of the season.
Many pragmatists were acclaiming the decision not to start Eze thinking ‘how can ensure that we not lose ‘ as opposed to ‘how can we flourish.’
I’m reasonably pragmatic but don’t understand why it’s seen as risky to start Eze against a poor team without a win all season.
People can say Eze had a couple of indifferent games prior to Saturday so should be the scapegoat.
That seems unfair to me.
The likes of Luka and Ayew have been poor over considerably longer periods and retained their places.
Roy’s doing a sound job, but this does not mean having to buy into his philosophy wholesale.

Hodgson has never bettered Tony Pulis's finish - 11th, despite Hodgson saying this is his best squad. We're going nowhere very slowly with Hodgson, and I'm guessing the board are happy with that.

There is every chance we have reached our ceiling , with Hodgson , or any other option. It’s the financial stature of the club that will break through that ceiling, on a permanent basis. Even if we had a manager get us in the to six, without huge financial certainty to back him, he would be gone in two minutes,
Technically not going forward we go no where But if we don’t go down , it’s not all bad. Because this club will not get richer stuck in the Championship.

I think most people see the PL as 3 leagues relegation fodder, mid table and top 6.

Everton have spent a fortune and now have a world class manager and yet they still have not quite made the step up from mid table team to top 6/7.

They may do this season but it just shows how hard it is to make that next step. I see Palace as the top of a group of clubs that are potential relegation candidates out next step is to become solid mid table like Everton and Southampton.

In the final analysis, we play in a 'Tired' old stadium with one of the lowest capacities in the PL.

The much heralded 'Stadium Re-Development' in essence consists of a much-needed replacement for an ancient rickety stand, not a complete overhaul to modernise Selhurst Park and of course the building work is yet to get off the ground.
We don't have state-of-the-art training facilities enjoyed by other PL clubs and we have only quite recently attained 'Category 1' status for the academy.
We have an aged squad with little or no sell-on value for many of the players and I believe 78% of our income is spent on wages.
Our 'Net Spend covering this season and the previous 3 seasons has been about £10 Mill.

This is the reality and against this backdrop Mr Hodgson has secured PL survival for 3 seasons and many are of the opinion that this will extend to 4 seasons.
He has met his objectives and whilst many question his tactics, the end has justified the means.

Finally, we have now been in the PL for a few seasons and enjoyed watching our players perform on the 'Big stage' against some of the best players in the world.
A far cry from time when CPFC2010 took charge of the club after 'Administration'.

So if new manager comes and struggles after Roys three years of "holding fort" and he/she struggles with the team left, lets give the new person a "break"..

I agree with Willo. It will be a very slow haul to get out of this lower mid-table position whilst the ownership structure remains as it is. In my view we desperately need new investment to exploit the fantastic potential we have of being the premier club in South London, which enjoys a great catchment area for support and recruits to our academy. I hope SP is making it a top priority to find new owners.

I agree. I often check oddschecker relegation odds to see how others view us. We are between 9-1 and 11-1 for the drop. We are currently top of the relegation scrap with 6 teams below us on shorter odds.
