Very much in the heart of the town. The cinema parking may be touch and go on a Saturday. can get quite busy. But there is a Pay and Display car park opposite Cardinal Park. As well as a Matalan Car Park which is totally free and only a 5 min walk from the ground. Not many people have seemed to latch on to Parking there, but I think its the best spot in the town. IP2 0AQ-for those interested. It’s not one of those places for patrons only, is it?

No ticket needed or anything. Failing that the designated pay and display car parks around the ground are easily located next to the stadium.

Evening all, Sorry to intrude. Not sure how many of you lot are making the trip to Portman Road on Saturday, its been a while since we have gone head to head at Portman Road. Any questions regarding Pubs, Parking or anything else I will try my best to help. Cheers, I used to use the Drum & Monkey on Ipswich away days. Shame I hear its no longer there. Was bulldozed to make way for flats wasn't it?

Reminds me Ipswich were the first club I heard singing ‘’Tracksuits from Matalan’’ while our players warmed up in our sh1tty red sweat tops and mismatching blue sweat pant bottoms.

May I use the goodwill demonstrated in this post to confess to a crime I committed against ITCF? In 1972, I was a guest at the police HQ in Ipswich, as a consequence of accompanying my dad who was playing bowls for the Met police against Suffolk police. The room we were in was fairly high-rise and you could see the Portman Road ground from it. After suffering the disappointment of watching Dave Bedford being run out of the medals in one of his two Olympic finals (I think it was the 10,000m), I decided to go for a stroll, and being fascinated by all things football, I made my way to the stadium. There was something compelling about a closed, quiet football ground, as I had never seen one before. Anyway (long story short), I managed to peel away (ie "steal" ) a 'Forthcoming Fixtures' poster that was on display at one of the turnstiles. I folded it up and took it back with me to the police HQ - completely missing the irony of entering such a building while in possession of contraband. On being quizzed by my mum, I lied that I had found it lying in the ground, and although she told me off for picking something up off the street ("you don't know where it's been etc" ) she let me keep it. It then ended up on my bedroom wall alongside other many football-related items. My conscience is now clear! Edited by YT (31 Jul 2021 10.26am) Edited by YT (31 Jul 2021 10.27am)
