How can you have an opinion on the merits of Ferguson, he has had a major injury and nobody has seen him play since. To say he is better than Ward is ridiculous.

Ferguson has not played a game since January 2020 and has only played 21 first team games in his career.

I am not saying Ferguson is better than either Ward or Clyne, The jury is out on Ferguson, but in my opinion neither Ward nor Clyne are good enough.

To be honest, however it turns out, I don’t care. Simply because I’m so glad we’re at least trying to move away from that turgid approach of the last few years. New manager, a major freshening up of the squad and at least it sounds like we’re going to attack and give teams problems.
If it all goes Pete Tong, I can’t grumble, because it’s the overhaul I wished for, if we’re going to be involved in the relegation battle or end up going down, let’s at least go down attacking.

spot on! Couldn't agree more. Just read that SkySports article on Vieira and it's made me more than hopeful that we can improve the football by some margin. It won't happen straight away but that's ok.

Experience counts for a lot in the Premier. Ferguson hasn’t played one game in the Premier, I doubt he is better than Ward or Clyne currently.

We are more likely to be the new Fulham than the new Leicester. I'm not being negative but the chances of us springing a surprise and winning the PL ( or just making the top 4) are somewhat more remote than us getting relegated.

As its stands I am quietly optimistic. The purchases/loan we have made so far have of a feel of some strategic planning behind them.

Of course the test will come when the season starts. We have some tough games coming up but hopefully we will give the big clubs a bit more to think about than we generally did last season. But, the real test of our progress will come when we meet the likes of West Ham, Wolves, Everton and Leeds - teams we need to be able to compete with on equal terms if we can make a valid claim to have made a step up.

I’m encouraged by our new approach in terms of recruitment and more purposeful tactical system.
However, there is a nagging doubt that we could be like the Fulham of last season.
They played neat football and were pleasing on the eye, but were unable to close out results. More experienced teams exploited their weaknesses and to a degree Fulham flattered to deceive.
There’s always the possibility we could be like Leicester who manage to play with one holding midfield player in N’didi (as we seem to be attempting to do) .
We don’t have an aggressive, dominant and energetic player like N’didi though and I see a risk in asking Jairo or Luka to perform a similar function.
Opposing teams could find it very easy to get at our back four and we could be vulnerable to counterattack with Mitchell pushing forward on the left.
In any event I’m looking forward to the new season and think we’ll create more chances.

Feel if we keep the core of the team with experienced players in the PL then we may have a better chance than them with a lot of loanees. The problem with them was their lack of goals, something we have also struggled with but as you say surely we will be more positive in that area under the new management.

I agree with the 14th/15th place finish.

Fulham signed too many players, the team needs time to gel, they started playing really well in the second half of the season, but it was too high of a hill to climb by then.

Midfield especially needs to develop an understanding. Usually the center backs and striker are pretty easy to fill in for.

Really looking forward to the season.

Don't think much will change this season, we've been a one man team for years, zaha has been the reason we've not been relegated and he will be the difference this season.

We are quite lucky to transition without losing him, get through this season, our younger players gaining more experience then I think we will be in a good position to build on this squad.
