Did anyone else notice that on every goal kick he had 1 or 2 defenders stand on touchline and passed to them for them to kick upfield … is VG injured?
They say hard work never hurt anyone ... but why take a chance? |

Like erstwhile Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio, Guaita is not the best kicker of a ball in terms of distance.

Brentford did it a couple of times as well. Obviously a new thing but I hate it - we were straight under pressure every time

Guaita is a good shot stopper but very poor on every other aspect of goal keeping. We need an upgrade or Butland do show something in training to get his place. Edited by EddieMac (22 Aug 2021 3.18pm)

I was relieved that we didn’t try to play it out from the goal line too often yesterday and that PV is not too rigid in his thinking to fail to embrace a longer punt that bypasses the high press. Did anyone see McArthur having a proper go at VG towards the end of the first half, presumably for poor distribution? Good to see him embracing the captaincy in a way that I’ve always thought lacking with Luka. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen VG punch as much in a game. While the continental punch has its place, it seems to have become VG’s default option. I’m not convinced that he is in complete control of where the ball ends up and I can see trouble ahead if it continues.

Regarding the punching in most of those instances I thought he was reaching over bodies on a whipped ball and it was the better option rather than run the risk of spilling the ball on impact.

Many teams have adopted this since the change in the law regarding goal kicks. Personally I think it’s a bad idea but I’ve got no coaching badges!

Yesterday was the first time I have actually seen him kick it to the opposition goal keeper so I tend to disagree. He isn’t that accurate and don’t get me started on stupid punches instead of catching the ball.
