Whenever you get a load of blokes of a certain ilk in the same space, no doubt with alcohol or drugs having been used, you will at some point get some aggro. I'm sorry if an innocent person got injured, but this incident is far from the beginning of the end.

They say there are frequently nasty incidents between Palace fans at away games, and that there seems to be a bit of jockeying to be the dominant group. They say it sours things. For various reasons I haven't been to an away game for a long time but happen to be going to Villa with my son. So I'm more interested than normal.

South London has never been for the faint hearted. That said, I do feel that the club should have, and I'm sure does have, a no yobbo policy. What happens outside the stadium is harder to control. But what happened in the 70s destroyed the game and really hurt Palace. And today we live in a world with more sensitivity to such things (whether we like it or not), and far more diverse entertainment alternatives. One major outbreak of trouble at a prem ground would be incredibly destructive to the "brand".
