After all that's happened are you now feeling contrite?

Then you could tell us whether you still think it's appropriate for Tory Party members to be involved in choosing our PM if the need arises between GEs?

As I forecasted all of these consequences before Truss was even confirmed as leader, and argued that this system needed to be abolished, have you got the humility to now admit I was right?

So he says yes and your life’s complete then?
Geez you must have arms like an octopus to pat yourself on the back so easily!

I am not interested in "pats on the back". This wasn't just obvious to me. It was blindingly obvious to every objective observer. Many people said the same. Just few on here.

I want the system changed and people like Willo to wake up to the need to do so. Gaining acknowledgement of that is just a first small step.

In a system they don't want, doesn't work, and necessitates tactical voting. They wanted Sunak and thought that Truss's obvious weaknesses would mean their preference would be a shoe-in.

Look what the result has been.

Left to their own devices we would now have Sunak in No 10. It would still be really difficult and he would be taking flak but the self inflicted problems would not have made it so bad as it is. We would not now be changing PM again.

Then they're not that clever are they? To offer a candidate they thought was unsuitable and bound to lose doesn't speak to their desire to do the best for the country.

I have displayed humility countless times on HOL by my bouts of self-deprecation and someone outside of this cherished site once asserted that I was "grace and humility personified" which I found rather humbling.
I am not minded to gallivant into the realms of "I told you so".

That's what happens when tactical voting is seen to be necessary to get the result you want.

Remove the need for the tactical voting and a straightforward choice gets made.

For good governance it is essential that the MPs choose who leads them. They have to have confidence in them, if it gets lost then the PM loses their job. The idea that the membership has a role is ludicrous.

I am not interested in your past behaviour, anymore than I am in the fact that I was right. What I am actually interested in is that you were wrong and whether you are now prepared to admit it and, more importantly, do something about it?

What I am interested is how you behave now, over this event.

So let's see a demonstration of this "grace and humility".

I have demonstrated self-deprecation and humility on HOL countless times and when my judgement has proved fallible I have been willing to shine a torch on it to admit my failings on numerous occasions.

I have nothing more to add on this matter accordingly I really do not feel compelled to respond to calls for me to demonstrate my "Grace and humility".Thank You.

The Honourable Member for Wisbech will embroil others into a debate, I shall not gallivant down this path.

So why not offer the two best candidates so the country is best served whatever choice is made?

The "Membership" will undoubtedly reinstall Boris. Boris would bring back all his "baggage" so that will detract from the job of stabilising the economy. The figs quoted on Newsnight earlier were Mordaunt 15 Sunak 32 Johnson 48. If Boris is reinstated it will be further evidence that the Tories have lost the plot.

It is of course feasible that the membership will not get a vote, dependant on the outcome of the MP nominations.

Candidates must get the backing of a minimum of 100 MPs. If there are three candidates, the one with the least votes will be eliminated. There will then be an indicative vote from Tory MPs, and if there are two candidates left, the party membership will have until 11 a.m. on Friday to vote for the new leader.

At this juncture I haver no desire to be embroiled in discussion about the extensive support for all as part of the Furlough Scheme, the recent announcements of the Energy Cap or the cut in National Insurance. My focus is solely on the leadership contest.

No different to religion. Extremism even

So blinded by loyalty and dogma there’s not even a hint of an ability to be self critical or objective

Zealots, universally incapable of accepting verifiable truths about themselves and their ‘cause’. Meaningful debate and discussion is pointless with these people.

Labour, Cons, all religions. Same old indoctrinated dross

Which is why, hopefully, they will ensure he isn't in the top two. If he is then they will send a very strong message to the membership that they don't want him, via their indicative vote and threats of resignation and refusing the whip. If the membership then choose him, the Party will split and an even bigger mess follows.
