On the performance would take a point. Just couldn't break them down and the stats just point more towards them than us on shots on target. Didn't do enough to win. Think we will get a win or so and a few draws to be safe with 2-3 games to play based on other scores. Will probably be involved in the drama last game with Forest sweating for their survival. COYP !!

A point will do. Awful game. Ruined to a large degree by all the illegal holding, shirt grabbing and general wrestling that referees ignore. Ruining the game IMV. Do the footballing authorities consider that the game should be entertaining?

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

It was always going to be a tight game, didn’t think we deserved a win so a point was a fair result. That result was more damaging for them and they look like a team that deserves a spell in the Championship.

Ha!

Good observation, I think you may well be right!

A certain gentleman has been conspicuous by his absence from this thread. Perhaps there were too many bad refereeing decisions even for him to attempt to defend.

If Ayew had an end product (final pass, cross or shot) he'd be a m player. We paid about -3m for him. Arguably the best value for money we've had in the last 10 years.

That's like saying if only a tennis player had a forehand...

It's not like Guaita where you say 'if only he could play with his feet' and you can get round it. An end product is pretty important for a forward!

Would be my argument too.

A lot of people saying Ayew had a fantastic game however I really fail to see it.

His value is surely where we are outclassed in games and he provides a presence up the top some players just cannot offer and an outlet too with his unique traits, consistent performance and work rate. Despite low statistics, and therefore an easy target to pick at, he is also capable of providing the odd goal/assist too.

In games such as the Everton one however we needed someone to really unlock a stubborn team/produce that bit of composure/magic and he unfortunately was unable to provide the answer. It's almost as though his inclusion is dependant upon others providing the 'final piece' and actual goal threat sometimes. Equally, wasn't Edouard/Eze/Olise or anybody else's finest hour either for context.

To reiterate from an earlier post of mine, I think he is and has been a great player for us. Everton was not his game however as for all his effort it amounted, and never looked as though it would, to nothing.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I think we're in violent agreement. I guess my point was that he is (or can be - like against Everton) excellent in other areas of the pitch but not where it really counts - but we've still got more value than what we paid for IMO. As compared with someone like Edouard who is ineffectual across every part of the pitch, but came with a significant (for us) price-tag.

It wasn’t an entertaining spectacle but certainly not helped by the shirt pulling and rolling around on the floor that went on largely unchallenged by the referee. At least we didn’t lose but we wasted opportunities to shoot on goal by playing one touch too many and trying to walk the ball in.

Yep, for me he plays in the tight games, but when we are going to have some ball and need to break a team down, he's not that guy.

But without Wilf, he's the guy at the moment.

All this Ayew bashing need to stop. Against Leicester instead of running down the line into a culdesac a la Zaha instead he cuts inside and plays a perfectly weighted through ball to Mateta, result being 3 points. Against Leeds he scores twice in a thumping victory. Against Southampton he plays a full part in his role resulting in another victory. Against Everton he once again played his part in an otherwise flat team performance.
These days he's better and more valuable to the side than Zaha, get over it.

Don't agree with that. Agreed that Ayew has been great, and has proved his worth to the team. Zaha is a great player who can create opportunities out of nothing. It will definitely give us a boost for the last few games.
