1 home win so far this season.

Next 5 home PL games:

Brentford (No Toney, Mbuemo, Mee)
Sheffield United
Chelsea
Burnley
Luton

There has to be 10 points minimum from that. If there isn't then we are going to be right in it.

Should be rather than has to be

Agreed. Judging by a number of comments on this site, some think that there are 3 worse clubs than us, and Hodgson is a safe pair of hands until the end of the season as we won't be going down in any case. If this is so why wait that long? Replace him now and let's get on with it, give the new manager the remainder of the season to settle his outlook and the close season to fully prepare.
I think of PV and his dismissal when the club were 12th, and compare it to Hodgson's record thus far this season, and have to conclude that Parish is not as straight up as he wishes us to believe.

Which new manager would this be ?

If it’s Cooper then I’m struggling to see the attraction. Just my opinion of course.

He’s the only one being spoken seriously about in the media probably due to the facts that he was previously interviewed and is available immediately. I would hope that a better candidate is on our radar but not available until next summer.

So if it’s not going to be Cooper now, the worse three clubs argument comes into play if the club are waiting for their preferred man.

PV’s dismissal is not a fair comparison given what we now know about his management style and the lack of quality coaching staff that he brought in.

We earned a point after losing our lead but perhaps if we'd come from behind to earn the same point people would have been happier?

Overall, we were too negative after being the better team in the first half. Next up (at home) ... Brentford.

I think responsibility has to lay at the door of those signing players. We really, really needed to strengthen our squad in specific areas in the summer. We didn't strengthen in those areas, and instead spent £20 MILLION on a keeper who is worse than Guaita (who had another year's contract but we allowed to leave for free), £20 odd million on a Brazilian reserve arriving with a stress fracture (?!) who can't get in our team, and £4m on a centre back we didn't need. How on earth can the people involved in transfers still be in jobs? The team needed full backs, wingers and a striker, and got none of the above, and what's worse, those in charge of transfers didn't utilise any loans to fill gaps. We can't use the excuse we didn't have any money, because £44m was spent on people that don't get in our team. How difficult is it to try and sign three or four of the best players from the Championship in positions we need for £5-10m each rather than frittering money in positions we didn't need people? If there is anyone in the recruitment/scouting/transfers team that reads these boards, please just consider actually strengthening the areas we clearly need to strengthen. We only have two strikers. We are desperately short on wingers (hence having to play non wingers on the wing). We have been desperately short on full backs for several years. Please stop signing players we don't need in positions we are covered with money that could be spent on strengthening the team where it desperately needs help.
If we don't have any money, fine, let's sign the best players we can possibly get on loan, free, or being opportunistic picking players up cheaply where contracts are running out.
Please stop signing players like Henderson for £20m odd and on £100k a week. It is brainless. ANY manager would struggle with the recruitment that Freedman et al are providing. I am THRILLED we aren't in the relegation zone and frankly Roy deserves incredible plaudits for the fact that we aren't. Come on Freedman et al. Wake up and do your job rather than waiting until transfer deadline day and wasting money on people we just don't need.

My initial thoughts were that we were way too negative most of the second half. However, some have expressed the view that Brighton changed things up at half time, were too good for us and forced us onto the back foot.

Although Roy admitted the subs didn't have the impact he'd hoped we were crying out for Eze when he came on but unfortunately he fluffed his lines when it mattered and it cost.

Ozoh for Hughes also looked a good call but although he put in an honest performance he looked way off the level (at the moment) IMO.

We didn't protect the ball well enough when breaking from defence.

I accept the greater part of your argument but where I differ is in what positions we need to find.

It is obvious for many seasons that we don't have a creative midfielder Our mode of playing the ball forward is quick passes to a marked forward. Nobody has the ability to hold the ball to allow time for forwards to find space. Contrast this with Brighton where they frequently found space. I have banged on about this since the days of Cabaye, Michael Hughes, Barry Bannon, Watson, etc.
We have never replaced them, maybe the feeling is that a holding mid-fielder is a luxury? If so please explain to me our dearth of goals. Not a great fan of Edouard or Mateta but if they got decent service they would score.
Protecting a 1-0 lead is a very negative method and one we are not very good at!

Ye agree. When they were coming on I thought it was quite positive and earlier than normal. As it turned out it didn't work out at all. Tbh whoever came on I think we still would have conceded. If it'd been Schlupp as people are suggesting and we'd conceded then everyone would say why didn't we put on youth/ attacking players.

My view, first half decent, second half poor. But we seem to be at least getting players back from injury and look like we can at least pose a threat to Chelsea and Brentford. After that the board need to find a right back and striker.

Clearly he didn't watch the same game as you and me as IMO Clyne actually had one of his better games. The problems we had second half were not being able to stop their midfield strolling through to our defenders. Their half-time subs made all the difference (hats off to De Zerbi). Ours, unfortunately didn't.

As Roy said, Ozoh will be a good player but he found last night tough - a good learning lesson for the lad.

IMO, it was a bad move to bring Eze on (I think Roy basically acknowledged that in the post match presser). IMO Franca would have been the better option.

Eze never looks happy out wide. In my humble opinion, he should have put Franca or Shlupp wide and put Eze central instead of a very average Lerma.

It's easy from the sofa or row 50.

Disappointing that we couldn't hang on but looking back if I had been offered 2 points from those last 3 games I would have bit ya hand off.

I was expecting zero.

Not sure which angle you watched it from, but from my position in the Whitehorse there were many, many occasions in the second half where Lerma got a vital touch in to prevent one of those intricate passes leading to a clear opportunity. It was a combination of Lerma and Guehi that kept them out.

Agree that Schlupp would have been better to bring on out wide. Roy may have been hoping that bringing Eze on would give us more control of the ball but he, Olise and Ozoh were particularly sloppy in possession (Ozoh less giving it away, more giving it to someone under immediate pressure) and it stopped us getting out.
