From South: (90 miles) M25 to Junction 28. Follow the A12 (signed for Chelmsford or Colchester) all the way to Ipswich. You will eventually come to a major roundabout (by Tesco) on the Ipswich suburbs.
Take the 2nd exit (signposted Ipswich West A1214) into London Road. Follow Ipswich A1214 signs for 2.4 miles, over roundabout and lights, to the junction / lights at the bottom of the hill. Go straight on (Town Centre A1214) and turn right at the next lights (signposted Cliff Quay, Football) into West End Road.
Away parking should be on the right hand side after half a mile. To get to the ground, continue to where all traffic turns left into Chancery Road, and the floodlights are directly ahead. At the T- junction turn left into Princes Street and immediately left into Portman Road.
From North and West (A14): Two possibilities: a) Continue on A14 to junction with A12, and pick up route From South.
b) Exit A14 at s/p Ipswich West and North A1156. Follow Ipswich West and North signs over two roundabouts into Bury Road, which becomes Norwich Road.
After 1.7 miles, at double roundabout by Inkerman pub, turn right (s/p Colchester A12) into Chevallier Street. Straight on at crossroads after 0.3 miles (crossing Bramford Road).
After 0.4 miles straight on at lights (s/p Cliff Quay, Football) into West End Road. The Princes Street car park is on the right after 0.5 miles.
Parking
All the following charge to park: The Princes Street car park, as above in directions, is signposted off West End Road; Ranelagh School in Paul's Road; Pay and Display parking at the train station; Portman Road carpark - via Handford Road; There are NCP carparks in the town centre.
Nearest Station
Ipswich - Five-minute walk away. (Trains run from Liverpool Street Station).
You should be able to see the top of one of the stands from the station. As you come out of the station, pass to the left of the Station Hotel. Go over bridge and two sets of traffic lights into Princes Street. First left into Portman Road.
Check train times and tickets at The Trainline. For more information, call National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
Numerous burger vans surround the ground. There is a McDonald's in Cardinals Park. The town centre is five to ten minute walk for food outlets. Otherwise there are a few Little Chefs on the A12.
The Station Hotel opposite, yes you guessed it, the train station is not bad. And there’s an O’Neils in Princes Street. Black Horse is recommended and that is at the end of Great Tipping Street on the way to the town centre. The town centre, 10 mins from gound, has lots more pubs.
Portman Road has improved a lot in the last couple of years. Both stands behind the goal have been re-built into two tiers. The South Stand opened in 2001-02 and the North opened soon after. Either side of the pitch are two older, smaller stands.
Palace fans will be seated along the pitch in half of the Cobbold Stand. This holds 1,700 and view, legroom and facilities are poor with a few pillars in the way, especially at the back. But a good atmosphere can be made due to the lowish roof.
Come on you Blues!
You're just a small town in Norwich!
Mainly Norwich City, Colchester United a little.
