Darren Powell has completed his transfer to Palace in a deal worth £750,000, according to the South London Press.

Powell, 26, agreed personal terms with Palace officials on Monday, after a deal of an initial £500,000 was agreed with his former club Brentford. An additional £250,000 will be paid depending on appearances.

Brentford boss Wally Downes said: "He's too good not to be going. He is a terrific kid who deserves to be playing at a higher level with a big club.

"Powelly is one of the best defenders in Division Two and would probably be one of the best in the First Division."

Steve Kember said of Powell: "He's a good player. He is quick, strong in the air. We think he can only get better."

Powell is a 6ft 3 central defender, who started his playing career at Croydon Athletic.
