The Valley, Tuesday 7.45pm

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace

Team news

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock may wield the axe in defence after the Eagles conceded four goals in the last two matches. Danny Butterfield could be recalled, but ex-Addick Paddy McCarthy (shoulder) is still sidelined.

Ben Watson finally completed his move from Selhurst Park while Nick Carle is pushing for a starting role.

Charlton captain Mark Hudson is doubtful to play against his former side after picking up an ankle injury at the weekend. Former Palace midfielder Tom Soares is on loan at the Addicks from Stoke City and is set to start.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"Charlton were the best team we played last year away from home. I know they will be looking to kick-start their season with a win. I think Charlton would swap our position if I'm honest.

"It is nice to be going there in our situation and make no mistake, we will want to win the game.

"We've had some tasty games against Charlton. This year was the first time we had beaten them in donkeys years at Selhurst, so it is an opportunity.

"Local rivalry is like that, they are the games you go into as a manager. It is the only place I can go and not be the number one most hated man if the chairman turns up. I hope he is going."

Phil Parkinson

"There is no better game to get our supporters back on side than the local derby against Crystal Palace. The match means everything to our fans and if we can pick up a win we would really take off."
