Crystal Palace gained a precious away point in their bid to stay up after a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Th Eagles fought back from a goal down to draw level through Alassane N'Diaye but stilll remain in the relegation zone.

Middlesbrough went ahead in controversial circumstances after 15 minutes when Gary O'Neil surged goalwards and fed Scott McDonald, who had been in an offside position when the initial through-ball to O'Neil had been played, to score.

Palace equalised in first-half stoppage time when Alan Lee's cross was headed into the back of the net by N'Diaye.

Middlesbrough: Jones, Hoyte, Wheater, McManus, Taylor (Naughton 42), O'Neil, Rhys Williams (O'Shea 78), Robson, Franks, Killen (Lita 57), McDonald.

Not Used: Coyne, Miller, Arca, Grounds.

Palace: Speroni, Ertl, McCarthy, Davis, Lawrence,Carle (Scannell 72), N'Diaye, Danns, Derry, Ambrose, Lee (Andrew 77).

Not Used: Manns, John, Comley, Zaha, Holland.
