Paddy McCarthy

Paddy McCarthy's own goal helped Barnsley to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Barnsley started the better of the sides with Adam Hammill looking lively on the left wing and Jay McEveley clipped the bar from a corner.

Julian Speroni had to punch clear a dangerous cross from Kieran Trippier before the Tykes went ahead on 35 minutes.

Diego Arismendi passed out to McEveley whose hard cross was steered past a grounded Speroni by defender McCarthy.

Goran Lovre fired wide and Hammill had a penalty shout turned down.

In the second half, McCarthy missed a decent chance to level by nodding over the bar while Speroni made an excellent stop from McEveley.

Nathaniel Clyne thwarted Hammill's goal-bound shot with a perfect tackle and at the opposite end, Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele saved at the feet of Neil Danns as his side won it.
