Crystal Palace stay in the bottom three after a dull stalemate at home to Bristol City.

In a match of very few opportunties Darren Ambrose almost broke the deadlock but his shot struck the post in second half, while City's Ivan Sproule hit the upright late on.

City fashioned the first opportunity as Brett Pitman volleyed a Jamal Campbell-Ryce cross off target.

Albert Adomah blazed over the bar for the visitors before former England keeper David James easily saved Palace new boy Jermaine Easter's shot from 20 yards.

Pitman had another chance that went abegging before Ambrose's curler was dealt with by Bristol stopper James.

Ambrose hit the post five minutes after the break from 20 yards and Eagles manager Dougie Freedman brought on Steffen Iversen and Sean Scannell to try and get a goal.

Nine minutes from the end Sproule saw his effort smack against the woodwork as Palace played out the remaining time to claim a point and a fifth clean sheet in a row at home.
