Crystal Palace eased through to the second round of the Carling Cup after a 2-0 win at home to Crawley.

Eagles youngster Wilfried Zaha netted twice in the second half to set up a tie with Premier League Wigan in the second stage.

Manager Dougie Freedman fielded an under-strength side against League Two Crawley with a number of fringe players getting a run-out.

Sergio Torres and Matt Tubbs forced Palace's reserve team keeper Lewis Price into saves, before Tyrone Barnett had a shot smack against the post after the break.

But in the 54th minute, Acadamy star Jon Williams set up Zaha to give the Championship side the lead with an 18-yard strike.

Four minutes later, Zaha doubled the advantage with a close-range finish after Andrew Davies nodded a free-kick into his path.

And Palace held on to secure their fourth win in a row and a place in the second round for the fourth successive season.

Palace: Price, Ramage (McCarthy 46), Davies, Moxey (Parr 68), Parsons, O'Keefe, Dorman, Ambrose, Williams (Murray 86), Andrew, Zaha.
