Team news

Nathaniel Clyne (foot), Kagisho Dikgacoi (hamstring) and Owen Garvan (knee) are all in contention for a return to the Palace squad after recovering from injury.

Clyne could replace Jonathan Parr, who filled in at right-back against West Ham, for his first start of the season. Lee Hills is still absent with a knee injury.

Winger Michael Kightly is set to make his Watford debut after joining on loan from Wolves this week. Left-back Carl Dickinson has recovered from illness and Lee Hodson (knee) is fit to play but Stephen McGinn (knee) is missing.

Quotes

Sean Dyche

"I have said it all along that – after playing in the Championship, working in it as an assistant and now a manager – there are no easy games.

"Every game is a tough match, some more than others because they come against the market leaders, but every game is difficult.

"Certainly over the last four or five years they have brought more youth into the building. It is similar to us in a way that they have had to adapt to financial issues and they have managed to do that in a similar way to us."

Owen Garvan

"I think come Saturday everybody will be pretty much fit and that's great. Everybody is raring to go and there will be a few selection dilemmas come 3pm on Saturday.

"There's a lot of games coming up in the next four weeks but I cannot wait to get back in and start playing again.

"I don't want to be sitting watching games on Saturdays but I have had one or two little niggles which have kept me out.

"The team picked up a few good results early on and obviously I wanted to keep playing and get some good game time but in football these things happen.

"It went OK when I was playing but you are always trying to do better. It is pleasing if you are out there and you get the win, that's the important thing."

Padd McCarthy

"It's always a tough place to go. We know Watford are a decent outfit and any game at their place is going to be tough. It's going to be a real battle but we go into the game with confidence and we feel that way about every game we approach at the moment.

"The fact that they are struggling a bit doesn't make it any easier as in this league the table doesn't always count for a lot. Hopefully we'll take a good crowd with us again and they can make plenty of noise for us and be really vocal. In both our last two games we've taken good support and it helps you out massively.

"To a certain degree the results we get out of our next two matches [the following game is at home to bottom club Bristol City] will be a measure of where we are at the moment and it is important to follow our last two performances up with another good display.

"But in the Championship anyone can beat anyone and to be honest you might as well throw the form book out of the window before every game you play!"
