A second string Crystal Palace side conceded two goals in the last five minutes to lose 2-1 at Blackpool.

Palace manager Dougie Freedman made nine changes from the side that drew 1-1 against Leeds ahead of Tuesday's crucial Carling Cup semi-final second leg at Cardiff.

Calvin Andrew had the first chance of the game with a 25 yard drive the flew off target, while Blackpool responded with an Alex Baptiste shot that went out for a corner and John Fleck fired over.

Palace went ahead in the 27th minute with a controversial penalty. Kieron Cadogan's cross into the box was deemed to have been handled by Barry Ferguson according to referee Nigel Miller and Owen Garvan put away the resulting spot kick for his second goal of the season.

Lewis Price kept Palace's one goal advantage by tipping over Ludovic Sylvestre's long-range drive nine minutes before the interval.

In the second half Ferguson and then sub Kevin Phillips tried to breach a resolute Palace rearguard to no avail. But Elliot Grandin found a way through with an equaliser for Blackpool from 12 yards in the 85th minute.

And in the dying seconds, Phillips' header against the bar fell for Basham to slam home from close range to give the hosts all three points.

Blackpool: Gilks, Baptiste, Cathcart (Basham 61), Evatt, Crainey, Sylvestre (Kevin Phillips 62), Ferguson, Fleck (Grandin 62), Matt Phillips, Taylor-Fletcher, Ince.

Not Used: Howard, Wilson.

Palace: Price, Dumbuya, McShane, Egan, Parsons, Wright, Cadogan, Garvan (Marrow 81), Sekajja (De Silva 77), O'Keefe, Andrew (Iversen 87).

Not Used: Fitzsimons, Pedroza.
