Glenn Murray
Crystal Palace exited the FA Cup after losing 4-1 at Stoke after extra-time in their third-round replay.
The teams met again after the original tie ended 0-0 at Selhurst Park and both sides made changes from the weekend's respective league games.
Teenage Eagles midfielder Hiram Boateng started, along with Lewis Price in goal, Matt Parsons in defence and Jermaine Easter and Aaron Wilbraham up top.
Palace were given a golden chance to go in front in the 34th minute from the penalty spot when Wilfried Zaha was fouled in the Stoke area by Ryan Shawcross. However, Easter's kick was pushed onto the post by keeper Thomas Sorensen.
They were made to pay for that miss as substitute Kenwyne Jones saw his far-post header from Matt Etherington's cross squirm through Price's hands and into the net.
But three minutes from time, Palace drew level - this time making no mistake from the spot. Shawcross brought down Jon Williams for another penalty and sub Glenn Murray scored the kick, just four minutes after coming on, for his 23rd goal of the season.
It was the striker's 15th goal in his last 14 matches for the Eagles and fifth in his last five away from home.
Stoke made sure of the win with three goals in extra-time, and on the balance of play over both games, claimed an undeserved win.
Jon Walters put them ahead on 95 minutes and increased the advantage in the 110th minute, before Camerone Jerome rounded Price to make it 4-1 10 minutes later.
