Eagles crash at Huddersfield

January 30 2013

Crystal Palace's poor run of form continued with a 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield.

Former Palace striker James Vaughan scored the only goal of the game to give Huddersfield their first win in 13 league outings.

On-loan defender Jazz Richards made his Eagles bow and he had to work hard in the opening part of the first half with his side on the back foot.

Palace got back into it after break with Yannick Bolasie and half-time sub Jon Williams looking lively, while Jacob Butterfield fired narrowly over.

As the match opened up, Vaughan broke the deadlock by latching onto Scott Arfield's excellent pass and rifled past Julian Speroni in the 65th minute.

Bolasie almost equalised within five minutes but his shot flew just beyond the post.

Boss Ian Holloway brought on strikers Aaron Wilbraham and Jermaine Easter for two defenders for an ultra attacking formation with the latter flicking a header wide, but Town held out for a rare win.

Victory for Palace against an out-of-form Terriers would have pushed them up to second place. And they have now picked up just one win from their last nine league fixtures.
