Crystal Palace sank to a seventh straight defeat with a 2-0 loss at West Bromwich Albion.

They fell behind just a minute before the break through substitute Berahino against the run of play before West Brom's Gareth McAuley added another in the 83rd minute.

Palace have now lost nine of their 10 league fixtures making it their worst start to a season since 1981.

They began well as Adlene Guedioura forced West Brom keeper Boaz Myhill into a decent save early on from Marouane Chamakh's flick-on.

Guedioura then clashed into Myhill and took a knee to the chest forcing him to leave the field on a stretcher in the 22nd minute, with Jason Puncheon coming on for him.

Nine minutes later, Billy Jones had to go off for the Albion and was replaced for Berahino.

And in the 44th minute, the youngster found the net, as Stephane Sessegnon cut the ball back from the left and Berahino was given time to fire home from the edge of the area.

Palace responded well after the restart, as Myhill beat out a deflected Puncheon shot, while Jedinak should have got his close-range header from Jerome Thomas' corner on target instead of wide.

Chamakh was unlucky not to see an effort dribble wide of the goal after the ball eluded Myhill and his defenders when it easily could have gone into the net.

At the other end Dean Moxey's excellent last-ditch tackle denied Shane Long, who was about unleash a shot, before Chris Brunt went close to scoring with a side-foot strike that went just past the post.

But with seven minutes to go, McAuley headed in Brunt's corner to make the game safe for the Baggies.

Myhill kept out substitute Yannick Bolasie's powerful drive, but as ever this season, it was too little too late for the Eagles.
