Palace Bag a fourth round spot

Crystal Palace progressed into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at West Brom.

Dwight Gayle scored his fourth goal of the season before substitute Marouane Chamakh added another with the last kick of the match.

Eagles manager Tony Pulis made five changes from the Premier League draw with Norwich last time out, with Gayle, Barry Bannan, Jonathan Parr, Jonny Williams plus youngster Hiram Boateng starting.

It was Palace who almost opened up the lead when Bannan rounded Ben Foster in the Baggies goal but smacked his shot against the post.

But the away side found the net on 22 minutes after Goran Popov's poor clearance went straight to Boateng and he picked out Gayle who drove into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Craig Dawson looped a header onto the top of the bar, while Matej Vydra had an effort saved by Julian Speroni.

Speroni was equal to strikes from Saido Berahino after the break and down the other end, Yannick Bolasie wastefully headed over unmarked from four yards.

Vydra was denied by Speroni again who made a superb save to push his shot around the post and the Argentine then denied Berahino.

And in the fifth minute of stoppage time, sub Chamakh added some gloss to the scoreline by firing into an empty net from Bolasie's pass to make it 2-0.

They now go into the fourth round for the first time in four years.

West Brom: Foster, Dawson (Amalfitano 60), McAuley, Lugano, Popov, Gera, Morrison, Yacob (Sessegnon 81), Berahino, Long, Vydra (Sinclair 69).

Not used: Myhill, Brunt, Ridgewell, Thorne.

Palace: Speroni, Mariappa, Gabbidon, Delaney, Parr, Bolasie, Bannan (Puncheon 79), Dikgacoi, Boateng (O'Keefe 68), Williams (Chamakh 79), Gayle.

Not used: Price, Moxey, McCarthy, Dobbie.
