A frustrating display saw Crystal Palace lose 1-0 at home to Southampton.

Palace manager Tony Pulis was forced into some changes due to Marouane Chamakh and Jonathan Parr's injuries, so Dean Moxey returned at left-back and Joe Ledley assumed an unnatural position behind Glenn Murray up front.

An an opening half hour bereft any any clear-cut chances, Julian Speroni pulled off an outstretched save from Steven Davis but the offside flag went up anyway.

Palace upped the pressure and forced a succession of corners, before the third one ended with them conceding a goal on 37 minutes.

The Saints cleared their lines up to the halfway mark and Jason Puncheon's weak header to Moxey was intercepted by Jay Rodriguez who out-ran the left-back. As Speroni rushed out to slide in on the 50-50 tackle, the ball ricochet kindly to Rodriguez who scored into an empty net.

Poor Palace defending allowed Ricky Lambert a shot on goal but it struck the post, while Speroni pushed out Luke Shaw's strike as Saints had Palace on the back foot.

Yannick Bolasie produced Palace's best chance of the half with a low stinging drive saved by Saints keeper Artur Boruc.

After the break, Lambert sent a free-kick just wide of the goal and Palace pressed for an equaliser but it didn't arrive, despite the introduction of Tom Ince, Cameron Jerome and Jerome Thomas.

Palace: Speroni, Ward, Dann, Delaney, Moxey, Jedinak, Puncheon (Ince 66), Dikgacoi (Jerome 66), Ledley, Bolasie (Thomas 83), Murray.

Not used: Gayle, Gabbidon, Hennessey, Bannan.

Southampton: Boruc, Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Cork (Wanyama 34), Schneiderlin, Steven Davis (Ward-Prowse 89), Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert (Gallagher 77).

Not used: Yoshida, Ramirez, Chambers, Gazzaniga.
