Crystal Palace were defeated 3-0 by reigning champions Manchester City.

Palace frustrated the home side with resolute defending and would have been happy to have gone in at the break goalless.

But David Silva got the breakthrough for City four minutes into the second period with a deflected shot off Scott Dann.

Just past the hour mark, Silva added another with a strike from Aleksandar Kolarov's cross on the left.

Palace were denied a chance back into the game when James McArthur's header was disallowed for offside even though replays showed he was played on by a City defender.

And Yaya Toure blasted into the top corner for the third goal from a swift counter attack, giving Eagles stopper Julian Speroni no chance.

Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Mangala, Kolarov, Toure, Fernandinho, Navas, Silva (Lampard 68), Nasri (Sinclair 88), Milner (Fernando 80)
