Alan Pardew suffered his first defeat as Crystal Palace manager after a 1-0 loss at home to Everton.

Romelu Lukaku bundled in a second-minute goal to help Everton to their first victory in nine matches. Damien Delaney missed a through ball to Steven Naismith on the right and his cross was parried by Julian Speroni for Lukaku to net.

Dwight Gayle had a flicked effort cleared off the line shortly after by Phil Jagielka. From the following corner, Scott Dann's goal-bound shot was blocked by John Stones.

Palace forward Marouane Chamakh was carried off on a stretcher in the 25th minute after he clashed heads with Seamus Coleman. New signing Jordon Mutch replaced him for his Palace debut.

The Eagles continued to dominate possession and have more chances, but despite the introduction of Wilfried Zaha and Glenn Murray, they found the Everton rearguard too strong.
