Crystal Palace defender Ryan Innis has successfully appealed his prison sentence for assault.

The 21-year-old was jailed for 14 weeks after he admitted smashing a bottle over a man's head in a Beckenham nightclub last May.

The centre half was in HMP Belmarsh on Saturday, forcing him to miss his debut for on-loan club Southend, who were playing at Scunthorpe.

However, Judge Adam Hiddleston, who heard the appeal at Croydon Crown Court, suspended the sentence for 18 months.

The judge ordered Inniss undergo 240 hours of community service and banned Innis for a year from entering licensed premises, except for work or buying food.

Innis has been in trouble with the police before and has had three previous cautions. One was for a public order offence in 2011, one for common assault in August 2015 and one for being drunk and disorderly and resisting a police constable in March 2015.

After the successful the appeal, Palace chairman Steve Parish said: "Obviously it's the last chance for Ryan."
