Vital win for the Eagles

Crystal Palace moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win at home to Middlesbrough.

The Eagles collected just their third win at home this season and Sam Allardyce his second as manager at Selhurst Park.

It was a thoroughly deserved victory too, as the South Londoners dominated throughout and got all three points through recent signing Patrick van Aanholt.

The Dutch left-back struck the decisive goal nine minutes before half-time with a right-foot shot from the edge of the area that found the bottom corner.

On-loan Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho made his Palace debut and was a dominant presence at the heart of defence as his side also picked up a rare clean sheet.

Palace: Hennessey, Ward, Tomkins, Sakho, van Aanholt (Schlupp 86), Cabaye (McArthur 61), Milivojevic, Puncheon, Townsend, Zaha (Dann 86), Benteke.

Not used: Speroni, Delaney, Kaikai, Campbell.

Middlesbrough: Valdes, Ayala, Bernardo, Gibson, Fabio, de Roon, Clayton, Forshaw (Guedioura 59), Ramirez, Stuani (Traore 78), Negredo (Gestede 46).

Not used: Guzan, Fry, Leadbitter, Clayton.
