More late heartache for Eagles

Crystal Palace again conceded a late goal to lose 2-1 at home to Liverpool.

Just like recent home fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, the Eagles were unable to hang on for the final moments.

Mo Salah snatched an 84th-minute winner to break Palace hearts and claim all three points for the Reds when a draw would have been a fair result.

The Eagles started brightly with Wilfried Zaha coming close to scoring by racing on to a Yohan Cabaye ball over the top, but his shot was saved off the chest of keeper Loris Karius.

Sadio Mane then almost netted for the Reds by diverting Virgil van Dijk's header from a corner just past the post.

However, Zaha was again Palace's danger man as he won a penalty for his side after the on-rushing Karius clattered him in the area and got a yellow card for his efforts. Luka Milivojevic put away the spot kick in the 13th minute to give Palace the lead.

Mane headed the ball into the Palace net but the Senegal player was flagged offside. He continued to be a menace, drawing a low save out of Eagles stopper Wayne Hennessey and he was also cautioned for a theatrical dive in the penalty area.

Four minutes into the second half, it was Mane who notched the equaliser for Liverpool after nipping in front of Mamadou Sakho to convert James Milner's low cross from the left.

Christian Benteke had two great chances to get on the scoresheet from Andros Townsend passes; the first was a scuffed volley well wide just inside the area and the second was scooped over the bar from a similar position.

Mane should have been given a second yellow card and sending off for deliberate hand ball but somehow referee Neil Swarbrick felt otherwise. Patrick van Aanholt's resulting free-kick was pushed out by Karius.

Liverpool then made it 2-1 with six minutes to go through goal machine Salah, who neatly tucked away Andrew Robertson's cross from close range.

Palace: Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka (Fosu-Mensah 88), Kelly, Sakho, Van Aanholt, Cabaye (Loftus-Cheek 73), Milivojevic, McArthur, Townsend, Zaha, Benteke.

Not used: Cavalieri, Souare, Delaney, Riedewald, Lee.

Liverpool: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum (Lallana 64, Lovren 70), Firmino, Mane (Oxlade-Chamberlain 64), Salah.

Not used: Mignolet, Clyne, Moreno, Lovren, Ings.
