Palace struggle at home again in Wolves defeat

Crystal Palace continued their woeful home record this season with a 1-0 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In the first-ever Premier League fixture between the two teams, Palace had Wolves on the back foot for most of the opening period – without threatening their goal.

The Black Country outfit were a threat on the break though, and Wayne Hennessey had to be at his alert best to push out a counter-attack effort from Raul Jimenez.

Opposite number Rui Patricio comfortably held a Luka Milivojevic free-kick in Palace's only shot on target in the half.

Wolves then nabbed what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 56th minute after wing-back Matt Doherty played a one-two with Jimenez on the right of the area before evading Patrick van Aanholt and firing in from a tight angle.

The Eagles responded well and only a brilliant double save from Patricio denied them an almost certain goal after the keeper blocked substitute Max Meyer's volley and then Jeffrey Schlupp follow-up on the rebound.

Wolves almost added another as Ivan Cavaleiro smacked crossbar with a vicious strike with their former goalie Hennessey well beaten.

And despite a late flurry from the Eagles, they were unable to break their Selhurst Park scoring duck for a fourth straight home loss for Roy Hodgson's side.

Palace: Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, Schlupp (Sorloth 82), McArthur (Meyer 62), Milivojevic, Townsend, Zaha, Ayew (Kouyate 72).

Not used: Guaita, Ward, Kelly, Puncheon.

Wolves: Patricio, Bennett, Coady, Bolly, Doherty, Moutinho, Neves, Jonny, Jota (Traore 87), Costa (Saiss 84), Jimenez (Cavaleiro 75).

Not used: Ruddy, Hause, Gibbs-White, Bonatini.
