Crystal Palace were defeated 1-0 at home to Chelsea at Selhurst Park.

In a turgid game, Roy Hodgson's side failed to record a single shot on target as they were unable to score for a second successive game.

Chelsea dominated possession and Palace defended deep looking to catch them on the counter-attack but were unable to threaten.

The Blues thought they had opened the scoring when Olivier Giroud fired in the net but the linesman flagged for offside.

Willian struck a free-kick against the post, before Ross Barkley's hooked shot also also hit the woodwork.

Six minutes into the second half, the away team netted the only goal of the game through N'Golo Kante. The French international broke from midfield and got between two Palace defenders to put away David Luiz's throughball despite Vicente Guaita getting a hand to it.

Giroud again got the ball in the Eagles net but the 'goal' was disallowed for offside.

In the last five minutes, Wilfried Zaha blasted over, while substitute Connor Wickham repeated the trick shortly afterwards as Palace fired another blank.

Palace: Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, Kouyate (Meyer 78), Milivojevic, McArthur, Schlupp (Wickham 69), Townsend, Zaha.

Not used: Hennessey, Ward, Dann, Puncheon, Ayew.

Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Barkley (Kovacic 88), Willian (Emerson 82), Hazard, Giroud (Morata 76).
