Crystal Palace were defeated 3-1 at home to Manchester United.

The loss ended a run of six unbeaten games in all competitions for the Eagles who have yet to beat Manchester United in a Premier League game.

Romelu Lukaku fired United ahead on 33 minutes after left-back Luke Shaw was given the freedom to set up the striker who delivered a smart finish into the bottom corner.

Seven minutes after the break, Lukaku added another when he hooked the ball over goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

Palace then made it 2-1 with a diving header from Joel Ward off Jeffrey Schlupp's cross on the left. Ward's last strike came against Chelsea in August 2015.

But United restored their two-goal advantage with a low strike from Ashley Young seven minutes from time.

Palace: Guaita, Van Aanholt (Kouyate 83), Tomkins, Kelly, Ward, Schlupp, Milivojevic, McArthur (Meyer 61), Zaha, Batshuayi (Benteke 78), Townsend.

Not used: Hennessey, Dann, Riedewald, Ayew.

Man United: De Gea, Shaw, Lindelof, Smalling, Young, Dalot (Bailly 77), Pogba, McTominay, Fred (Garner 89), Sanchez (Rashford 77), Lukaku.

Not used: Romero, Pereira, Rojo, Chong.
